There has long been speculation about if, when and how Hasbro and Mattel would join forces to make the ultimate toy and game company. According to The Wall Street Journal, Hasbro is said to be on the prowl (pun) again, after substantiated news just last year, about the two companies being in talks.
At this point there is nothing substantial to report. Yet, this time feels better with Hasbro's recent move to a media company. When more content is what they need. Barbie, Hot Wheels and so many brands under the Mattel brand are great choices.
Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, Inc. today announced that they will be teaming up to produce and distribute content based on Hasbro brands, as well as original stories. The two companies will collaborate on live action and animated films, with Hasbro's Allspark Pictures and Allspark Animation playing an active role alongside Paramount Pictures in development and production.
The father and son duo of Ian Dawson and Simon Dawson today announced the launch of their new team called Dawson Racing, a division of the D3 brand. With 45 years of sports industry experience and their passion for motorsports as the driving force behind the company, their new business now encompasses the third generation of Dawsons' with Simon's son's birth in June 2008.
In addition, they're further excited to announce that Hasbro will join them for the creation of the D3+Transformers Racing Team for 2018 and beyond.
Even with all the flack over the "Transformers The Last Knight" box office sales. Fans buying power helped Hasbro beat Wall street's estimates with a lift from their related Hollywood properties making it to screens this summer. According to CNBC, the franchise brand, Transformers, along with Nerf toy sales aimed at this summer were their leaders in revenues. Unfortunately, Hasbro's overall sales were most modest in the last year and half, which took a bit of sheen off Hasbro's progress as an entertainment media company.

Hasbro today announced that it has acquired Boulder Media, a multi-award winning Irish animation company based in Dublin. Boulder has produced a variety of award-winning series for Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney and BBC. As a wholly-owned subsidiary, Boulder will continue to produce animated series on behalf of third-party clients, in addition to producing animation projects for Hasbro’s best-known brands.

The numbers are in from the latest Hasbro Q3 2015 Earnings Report with word that Transformers sales declined over one-third. Furby, My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop also saw declines. Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner responded to a question about shirking shelf space. Citing the decline in sales due mostly to this being an off-year from the movie. Sales are actually better than expected thanks to the new Robots in Disguise cartoon, new product lines, and other Transformers related initiatives such as licensing and games. Transform and Roll Out the Sales! That's what is said to have surprised investors on Hasbro's earnings report of a 10% lift in quarterly boys product sales. This is despite the fact that many retailers profits have been slowed by the strong US Dollar. Hasbro cited their stable brand Transformers and other entertainment tie-ins such as Marvel as their leaders in sales last quarter, according to Forbes magazine.
The New York Times' Dealbook reports that Hasbro has ended talks with Dreamworks about the possibility of acquiring the company. The big kicker is said to have been a 5% drop in Hasbro's stock price when the acquisition rumor went public - significant because Hasbro was seeking to pay a combination of cash and company stock for the studio. The good news is Hasbro has finally gotten back to reporting profits.
