Convention News

Hot on the heels of the latest delay in launching preregistration with just over three weeks left until the convention starts, the Fun Pub Video Youtube channel has posted a pair of new videos giving a walkthrough demonstration of the new registration system for both regular attendees and exhibitors. At last report, the earliest registration is expected to possibly go live is now Tuesday, May 26th, following additional complications with bringing the new system online. We have the videos embedded below, so click through to have a look.

The official BotCon Twitter has posted stating that the registration system is not ready and will not be ready until after the US Memorial Day holiday weekend. This would put registration as likely beginning on Tuesday, May 26th - roughly three weeks before the actual start of the convention. Keep reading for the Tweets.

With about 25 days remaining before the first planned activities of this year's Botcon, it looks like registration will finally go live sometime on Friday, May 22. The Botcon Twitter account posted a notice to this effect, and an update to botcon.com goes in to slightly more detail, anticipating pre-reg so long as no technical issues present themselves in the meantime. Along with this, images of this year's t-shirt and hat were also posted. Click through and check out the images and a quote from the update.

Keeping priorities well in line, Fun Publications has followed through on yesterday's promise and posted the first three pages of the at-show comic book story. Featuring Stepper, Battletrap, and Megatron out of the boxset's offerings, the preview is just enough to set up the underlying notion of the story typing the disparate toys together. The final page of the preview also featured an obscured character, who after some guesses to the identity perhaps got too close, was obscured even more. Identity speculation and preview images in the full article!

Registration is now open for TFCon Charlotte! Available online for a whopping, super-professional 149 days/5ish months/21 weeks before the event, prices range from a $264 package for the weekend and a set of convention-exclusive toys down to $22 for Sunday only. Prices are also given for the various figures as add-ons, and also T-Shirts ranging up to size 3XL. Keep reading to see, and for a link!

While we can't know for certain just yet that these Generations Waspinator recolors we reported on earlier are Botcon toys, we do have a good idea of what they're meant to be. Similar to the unknown black Skids seeming to be a Diaclone reference, these Waspinators appear to be set up as stand-ins for the line's Waruder mecha - the origins of the G1 Insecticons, based on the right-most toy sharing coloration with a Waruder toy not adapted in to Transformers. It looks like Botcon may have a Diaclone referential sideline happening this year!

With less than a month left before the doors open to Botcon 2015, Fun Publications has shared the third page of their online teaser comic starring Packrat on their Twitter account. Subsequent tweets today promised a number of additional reveals coming up covering a range of topics. We've got page three mirrored, and you can check that out along with links to the first pages as well as details on what's planned for announcement by clicking the title!

This year's Botcon brochure specified that merchandise in the dealer room that infringes upon Hasbro's intellectual property would not be permitted in the dealer room. While a specific intent was made to avoid using the term "third party" in this, it was still left very ambiguous about where the line would fall in terms of banned goods. Some were obvious, like complete figures based on real characters, but things like accessories and other upgrades remained a question mark. We now have more information on this. Keep reading!

A website specializing in questionably-obtained toys has posted images of a black recolor of Generations IDW Skids. It's unknown exactly what this figure represents or where it's intended to be sold... but given what it was listed with, we have a few clues. Keep reading for more details!

Botcon.com has added a new set of questions to their FAQ page for this year's show. While there's a lot covered here, there are a few important highlights to call attention to. As you may have anticipated already, the general admission attendees will not be permitted any form of access to Frank Welker. Dealer table discount deadlines are going to be changed since pre-registration has been delayed, Wifi is limited to the hotel rooms, and they're still trying to work out transportation between O'Hare and the venue. Keep reading for more!

Amid other Botcon-related happenings today, this almost went unnoticed. We've got our first look at the packaging design for the convention exclusive box set, "Cybertron: Most Wanted". With the toys having been revealed over the course of the last several weeks, this was the last part of the set to be shown off, and this year the box is styled like a desk, complete with keys, pen, and a cup of Pepto Bismol energon in the corner, sure to leave unsightly rings behind. Click through to check out the art!

Joe Moscone, formerly the PR agent that handled Hasbro's entertainment brands such as Transformers, GI Joe, etc., is auctioning off his collection of figure for charity. For the benefit of Receptions For Research: The Greg Olsen Foundation, Moscone is auctioning off a fairly impressive collection heavy on convention and SDCC exclusives. Most notably for Transformers fans, he's auctioning off the reasonably rare OTFCC Sentinel Maximus figure. Keep reading for more info!

Fun Publications' Brian Savage has sent out an email explaining that BotCon is working on getting registrations live, but "That will not happen this week." Also, the BotCon block at St. Charles' Pheasant Run Resort is full, and no further rooms are available, nor are they able to find a second hotel in close proximity. But parking, at least, will be free. Keep reading for more details.

Dealer Registration is now open for TFCon 2015! The second annual US convention from the popular TFCon and heir to the superb Charticon, the convention will take place October 16th-18th in Charlotte, North Carolina. Keep reading for more details and a link.

BotCon originators the Hartman brothers stopped by the 2005 Forums to announce that they would be completing the liquidation of their Transformers collection at this year's BotCon! Having sold off the first half of their collection at BotCon 2006, the remaining half will cover 1998-2006 and may contain upwards of 1000 pieces. Keep reading for the announcement!

Last week, among the stories we reported on from Transformers Expo 2014 was the custom sticker set that turns a clear red and black EZ Collection/Legends Optimus Prime into Nemesis Prime. Kinda. Auto Assembly 2014 is the premiere UK Transformers convention, and it's happening next weekend! Full Metal Hero reports that IDW artist Nick Roche will be on hand, selling prints of sketches of the More Than Meets The Eye Season 2 crew, as well as the Lost Light crew Holoavatars seen in Season 1's field trip to Hedonia. Also, colorist Josh Burcham has contributed design for a "Dinoband" tshirt to be sold at the con. Apparently musical Transformers is a theme this year! Keep reading for mirrored images of all three.

BaCon's still at the Hasbro Breakfast at Comic-Con International 2014, and he's got photos of the promo for Robots in Disguise 2015! Click the title to see! (...is that Smokescreen returning from Prime Beast Hunters in a more G1ish design?)

Twitter user @deefuzz has posed in-package images of Fansproject's LER-01 Columpio in Diaclone Sludge-inspired colors (and package!), as well as Kar Krash, a G2 recolor of their CA-09 Car Crash, AKA Not-Breakdown. Wouldn't be a Transformers con without a G2 Breakdown, and the Ks are definitely extra-90s. Click through to see the images!

And if you haven't seen enough photos to feel like you're really at BotCon yet, BaCon's got a nice, meaty gallery of the dealer room for you too! See anything you're looking for? Maybe something rare? Or maybe somebody you know? Click the title to see the full gallery of 50+ photos!

BaCon's added another nice, big gallery of the BotCon 2014 Knights 3-pack featuring Alpha Trizer, Flareup, and Apelinq! Trizer is a recolor Transformers Prime Thundertron meant to be an aged version of Cheetor; Flareup is a recolor of Prime RID Arcee (soon to be partially recycled as Generations Chromia), and Apelinq is our second recolor for this con of the Beast Wars 10th/Cybertron Deluxe Optimus Primal mold. Click through to see the 82 images of the figures and their bios!
