The End of The Hub: Discovery To Take Over And Rebrand Network

Deadline is reporting today that The Hub will soon be transitioning to primary control by Discovery, following acquisition of a portion of Hasbro's existing stake in the joint network venture. The network is expected to be rebranded as Discovery Family, joining a range of other specialty channels in Discovery's lineup. For more details, keep reading! Following the transition, Hasbro will continue to provide programming during a six hour daytime slot, between 9am and 3pm, still giving a home to Hasbro properties like Rescue Bots, My Little Pony and presumably Transformers: Robots In Disguise when it debuts next year, among others. The article cites poor success in gaining a foothold in the children's television market, which they observe to be dominated by Nickelodeon and Disney. Not stated in the article but certainly no small contributing factor is The Hub's lack of availability outside of higher-tier cable and satellite programming packages, with some carriers still not even offering the channel in high definition. No indication is made if those factors will change following the rebranding, and likely will not be clear until some time after it takes place. However, despite registering a small profit from The Hub, Hasbro seems uninterested or unwilling in continuing to try to make a go of primary operation of the channel. Ultimately it will likely be to everyone's benefit if the Discovery name being clearly attached can result in more homes receiving the programming.

Unfortunate that Hasbro has developed a pattern of giving up.
