Toy Fair 2009 - Hasbro Transformers 2009 Press Preview Report

Brand Manager Mike Ballog and Senior Design Manager Aaron Archer were on-hand at the panel to provide some information to the press about upcoming Transformers products.

2009 is all about the 25th Anniversary which seeks to showcase the whole history of the brand.

ANIMATED
  • Season 3 episodes will have new characters like Waspinator.
  • Old characters will have new versions too like Samurai Prowl.
  • Arcee a fan favorite will get an action figure.
  • Electrostatic Soundwave's guitar is named Ratbat (images here).
  • Wreck-Gar is done as a voyager for the Weird Al fans
  • Jetfire and Jetstorm show up in Season 3, returning in March, as two brothers who are part of the Elite Guard.

  • UNIVERSE
  • Products created as a celebration of all the Transformers eras.
  • They try to brings out characters from most every era, including:
    • Smokescreen G1 versions.
      Beast Wars Dinobot - better sculpt and robot
      Ratchet - was in the film and an 80's fan favorite
      Hot Shot - To represent the Armada era with Mini-Cons. Archer says "The old one does not hold up anymore."
      Inferno - Voyager adds different scale to 25 year celebration.
      Mini-bots - From their 80s faves, Wheelie, Warpath, Cosmos, and Rodimus are all new retools.
  • Mighty Muggs wave one with Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, and Soundwave.

  • REVENGE OF THE FALLEN
    Legends
  • There are different new Legends in the movie line, including Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and Jetfire

  • Scouts
  • Hasbro is not doing the Real Gear type stuff this time, saying that they are going going back to vehicle to robot play model.
  • Some figures will be on-screen characters, and some will be toyline-only.
  • Wave 1 includes Rollbar, Dirtboss, Knockout, and Deadend.
  • Great figure with some kind of unique sculpts.

  • Preview Wave Deluxe
  • Hasbro is excited to have Soundwave in movie line.
  • He is one of two preview figures along with Bumblebee.
  • The new film has a different styling to show modified real-looking figures.

  • Deluxe Figures
  • The Sideswipe character's alternate mode Chevrolet Stingray Corvette was shown off, which is described as a unique robot made to support aggressive style.
  • The Breakaway Jet taps into the military theme that is in the movie.
  • Construction Rampage has three modes: Robot, alt and jack-hammer.
  • Skids, the Chevrolet Beat, is one of two twin brothers in the movie and Mudflap, Chevrolet Trax, is the other red brother. They are part of the Autobot team. These characters are lots of fun and in a lot of great action scenes

  • Voyagers
  • Terex RH400 - Hasbro took the blocky item and turned it into vertical wheel bot with tank tread.
  • Starscream has new "Cyberglyphic" Cybertronian tattoos and is an all new mold with Mech-Alive action in chest, which is designed to mimic the organic constant motion the robots have in movie. The Mech Alive toy's chest gears move when the head is turned.
  • Ironhide, retooled and detailed. Now has bigger blaster on arms.
  • Leader Optimus Prime has an all new sculpt and comes with double swords weapons. Mech Alive incorporated to bring Optimus Prime to life. Alternate mode was redesigned to look more tight and life like.

  • Human Alliance Play Set
  • Wanted to make hybrid of Alternators style.
  • Bumblebee is fiend with with Sam, the human figure that can sit inside the car. You can put Sam on the bot to participate with battle. The scale between the Autobot and the human was maintained.
  • Expect more sets to come with figures you can use on each other.
  • Bumblebee has battle helmet to bring more stuff in film to the product.

  • Devastator (Supreme)
  • Six different alternate figures connect to make Devastator.
  • The Big combiner takes up space - 2 ft high, about 4 ft wide.
  • Because the combined figure is so huge, there are no secondary (robot) mode just alternate and combiner limbs.
  • There will be other figures for each character that have full robot and alternate modes, but will not combine.

  • Gravity-bots
  • Super simple Transformers modes for kids made for fun. Also good for grown-ups at work.

  • Fast Action Battlers
  • All new Optimus Prime mold.
  • The Chevy Jolt a new character based on the Chevrolet Volt automobile.

  • PowerBots
  • Like Cyberstompers, Bumblebees sculpted on the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro this time.
  • The figures will have more functionality functionality this time.
  • Expect Decepticons to help fill out this part of the line.
  • Mega Powerbots this time as well.

  • Robot Heroes
  • New Battle Packs some with Lager bots.

  • Robot Replicas
  • This line will feature all-new, superior sculpts and molds sporting better details.
  • These allow for better posability with new joints system.

  • Role Play
  • Bumblebee Helmet was shown, which will allow you to mix voice with music to do a karaoke kind of thing. He also has radio noise effects and the classic transforming sounds.
  • Bumblebee Plasma cannon is made to look like part of the robot. He has a fist mode that converts to cannon mode. Has an easter egg sound that plays the something from the "The Touch."

  • Robot Powered Machines
  • Mini cars with the transformers show on the bottom.

  • Battle Packs
  • Depict epic moments such as the Bumblebee vs. Barricade battle and highway Optimus Prime vs Bonecrusher.
  • Revenge of the Fallen Movie sets will be made later.

  • Devastator Showdown
  • The BIG product of the Revenge of the Fallen line is meant to capture the scale of Devastator.

  • Battle Chargers
  • Next generations with Sideswipe and Bumblebee are coming.
  • Like Cyber Stompers but have more details and sculptings as well as a battle elements.

  • Remote Control Toys
  • Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are planned.
  • Data Center
