Hasbro Buys Sunbow Media Licenses of Brands
bwbm - Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Hasbro, Inc. announced today that they have purchased over 1,000 episodes of classic programming featuring some of the most established brands, including G.I. Joe and Transformers.

These properties were produced by Sunbow back in the day and were most presently owned by TV-Loonland.

"As we deliver new immersive entertainment experiences to audiences worldwide, it was extremely important that we had the rights to fully control the usage of our intellectual properties," said Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s Chief Operating Officer.

This is fantastic news for fans. Hasbro now has control over the various Japanese G1 series. Here's hoping to a Headmasters DVD box set in the states!

This is as it should be. Hasbro not owning the rights to Transformers is like Michael Jackson owning the Beatles' catalog.

This is good. Hasbro is already going to be making cartoon based G.I. Joe boxed sets, which will include DVDs. Isn't Hasbro's 25th anniversary G1 Prime going to come with a DVD MTMTE? G.I. Joe will be perfect to market with the new movie next summer. The old cartoon will be a nice refu... read more

Hopefully this means I'll finally be able to enjoy G1 without enduring the Rhino with the catapult and all the other retarded sh*t those DVD's make you sit through.

this couldn't be better timed, I missed the original rhino dvds due to being a poor college kid, but now that I have a real job I decided to buy them up. I got season 1 and 2 part 1 last week. I swear hasbro must have just been sitting on this for the last few weeks just to screw with me.

I'm almost willing to bed that this is so Hasbro can package the original cartoon episodes with the Universe/Classics 2.0 figures and 25th GI-Joe figures, having the episodes highlight the character they come with.

Sideshow and Prime 1 Studio are proud to present Ultra Magnus from Transformers: Generation 1. Designed by renowned artist Josh Nizzi, famous for his interpretation for the Transformers movies. Ultra Magnus is a white redecoration of G1 Optimus Prime and crafted with impressive attention to detail and features LED light-up eyes and stands approximately 24 inches tall. Read on for the full details and image.
Once again, Twitter user @miiakira2017 has posted an image of their Transformers-related design work. Today, it's a classic car- the specific make, if any, eludes RAC - that would have turned into a laser pistol-wielding cowboy. Though there's a slight resemblance to 2010's Hunt for the Decepticons Scout-class Hubcap, the replies peg this as a Diaclone-era design, so well before that figure was designed and likely a coincidence. Keep reading to see!
Hobby Lobby has had a few waves now of different kinds of Transformers art stamped in to sheet metal. A new offering in this line has just recently hit, bringing some new choices. We found today two pieces featuring G1 Optimus, and Bumblebee, represented in the design of the 2006 Classics toy, at Hobby Lobby. They were priced at $18.99 each, which may seem a touch steep for something the size of perhaps a small calendar. But we can't deny the art on them look really sharp. Click through for images of both!
