Hasbro Raising Toy Prices Starting September 1
Beast Megatron - Monday, July 21, 2008

And you thought buying Transformers was already taking a toll on your wallet! According to Reuters, Hasbro will raise the prices of its toys "in the mid-single-digit range" starting September 1, 2008. This price increase is being performed by Hasbro "to maintain its margins to fend off rising commodity costs."

ITS JUST RIDICULOUS cuz its on my b-day month

But I'm not talking about the quality of materials they are using to make the toys and packaging. I'm just talking about redesigning the packaging so that they are using LESS materials not CHEAPER materials. There is NO REASON for there to be that much empty space in ANY of the boxes. ... read more

the price of the packaging has very little to do with the price hike. they're already using cheaper plastic for the packaging. compare the bubble and tray to those of the movie toys and you'll notice a deffinate difference. grant it i'll have to be more choosy, but i'd rather pay ... read more

Well I think that if figures continue to be a nice as, let's stay with Ultra Onslaught, collectors would still buy him up in a heart beat. I don't think that the kids would care much either. Onslaught could have easily fit inside the Voyager class packaging with VERY little wasted space.

They most likely could do boxes of varying sizes, but it'd also probably impact the purchasing of the toys. "big fig in a little box" loses to " big fig in bigger box"...but I agree. Toy line packaging could use a total overhaul. My other main collection is Lego Bionicle. Th... read more

Everyone is arguing about the oil price aspect of this price hike. Nobody is talking about what I think could offset the rise in toy prices...redesign the packaging to be more eco friendly AND economically friendly. I found Ultra Onslaught at Target today and let me tell was pretty silly t... read more

firstly, chrome is over-rated. secondly, sure the cost of leaders increased. if you want to know why, see my previous paragraph. the same can be applied to #4. to keep consumers happy and the price at $9.99 they had to cut corners somewhere. honestly, i'm shocked that americans know s... read more

Wow - just a little bit conspiracy-theorist. People were not mentioning anything about this before George Bush (II) because people didn't think it to be an issue before he came to the Presidency. 8 years is a long time. At the beginning of those eight years, many experts were saying that o... read more

The only thing I really find wrong with is #4. RiD was a solo effort by Takara. The figures were R&D'd by them. All Hasbro had to do was bring the toyline over. Not to mention, most of RiD was near-re-releases and repaints of figures released in earlier lines. This allowed Hasbro to do the ... read more

Once again, Twitter user @miiakira2017 has posted an image of their Transformers-related design work. Today, it's a classic car- the specific make, if any, eludes RAC - that would have turned into a laser pistol-wielding cowboy. Though there's a slight resemblance to 2010's Hunt for the Decepticons Scout-class Hubcap, the replies peg this as a Diaclone-era design, so well before that figure was designed and likely a coincidence. Keep reading to see!
