Transformers: Age of Extinction - Set Visit Shows Michael Bay In-Action, New Optimus Prime, More
BaCon - Thursday, October 03, 2013

Nelson over at Shoot For the Edit has posted a short report with images about his recent Transformers: Age of Extinction set visit to the Chicago filming location. He shares some of the smaller details about what's going on set as well as a few images of the director Micheal Bay behind the desk, as well as how they got the new Optimus Prime trucks, New Cars and more that you can read below now.
As some of you know, I visited the TF4 set in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. I won't bore you with the details, but here are some things I noticed and discovered.

Michael has a totally new crew for this movie (aside from the DP & the AD). Stunt people & drivers, SFX crew, camera crew, and grips. I guess it goes with the whole "fresh" feel and look of TF4.

The truck company for Optimus Prime in TF 1-2-3 never wanted anything to do with the movie franchise. Before filming the first TF movie, the production crew approach the truck company to see if they could lend them 2 trucks. They said no. The producers then found 2 old rusty 1995 models that barely worked and gave them a paint job that got the job done with a very tight budget for chrome and stuff. This time around, Western Star (a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America) gave them 2 new trucks. No questions asked.

Optimus Prime was painted by West Coast Customs.

There are 2 of every car, truck, and vehicle in this production (one for back up).

1 Bugatti is owned by a private owner. The other is a loaner from Bugatti.

1 Lamborghini Aventador was purchased by the studio. The other was purchased by Bay (the one with the interior shots in the movie).

1 vintage 1967 Camaro SS (BumbleBee) is owned by the studio, the other by Bay.

Optimus and BumbleBee GGI renders are still being tweaked. Optimus looks grand and BB looks sleek, refined and badass.

Bay showed me a 5 min sizzle reel. It was f-ing amazing. After I saw it, he asked me "Kinda boring eh?" I think with all the pressure he's got, deprecating himself is his idea of humor. It also probably makes him strive more towards creating a kick-ass movie.

In the picture above you can see BumbleBee's head (paper weight) made of car parts (gears and stuff).

All the catering trucks have California license plates, I wonder why? I wonder if the local catering companies got tossed because of the leaked call sheet? Some how the food is better this time around (IMO).

More Transformers 5 News
We reported on this back in 2014, but it appears with the roll out of Transformers 5 on the way. Paramount is just now in court fighting a $27 Million lawsuit. The suit claims that the Chinese company Wulong Karst Tourism, paid $750,000 to be placed in the film, but they never appeared in the movie that was shown in Cinemas. Could this be a setback for the Transformers 5 movie's product and licensing opportunities?
The Czech news site expats.cz reports that Michael Bay may be considering shooting locations within the Czech Republic for the upcoming Transformers 5. This comes shortly after prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka made a journey to Los Angeles to court Hollywood producers for filming in his home country. Producers for TF5 were allegedly seen scouting locations in the country, so I guess it worked! Keep reading for more details.
Entertainment website The Wrap is reporting tonight that comedian Jerrod Carmichael may be in talks to be part of the cast for Transformers 5, due to begin filming this summer. The Wrap previously reported the rumor of Nickelodeon star Isabela Moner also being in negotiations to star in the movie along with returning lead Mark Wahlberg. There's precious little in the way of details, and reportedly Paramount has declined to comment at this time, but with production getting ever closer, more and more of these rumors are likely to prove accurate. Keep reading for a link back to the original article.
Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, Inc. today unveiled its top talent writers room which will have responsibility for developing Hasbro’s cross-property interconnected onscreen universe featuring the brands G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) and ROM. This group includes some of the most notable creative talent in Hollywood, including Academy Award Winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), who will have responsibility for overseeing the writers room on behalf of Hasbro and Paramount as well as serving as Executive Producer for all of the films.
Micheal Bay has let it be known that he's and about scouting for the Transformers 5 locations via this instagram account. And what could be more iconic than a shot of him at Stonehenge? Word is they will be shooting parts of the 5th Transformers movie in the UK so we'll have to wait and see where the devastation will take place. What other locations do you think would make a good playground for GIANT F*ING ROBOTS?
