Michael Bay has said that new characters and twists will be packed into the third entry of the
Transformers live action series during his appearance on Starz'
In the House.
On his appearance on the show,
Transformers 3 was a main topic of discussion,
MTV reports, and he says that things will change for the third installment:
"You can't just rehash the old," he explained. "We're adding a lot of new elements. We're adding new characters. We're adding a lot of twists."
Mr. Bay also talked about why he decided to do
Transformers 3 in 2011 and not after his small movie, as well as 3D.
2011 Instead of 2012
Mr. Bay has previously said that he would like to take a year off from the Transformers live action franchise and then return in time for a 2012 release date.
However, he was told by the folks at Paramount that "We're going to get fired if we don't have a 2011 franchise." He decided to help them out and employ 3,000 jobs - 1,000 for the toys and 2,000 for the film - that would result from the film.
I'm going to put [the small film] on hold and do it right after ['Transformers 3']."
Transformers in 3D?
We have reported a
couple of
times that there have been talks to capitalize on
Avatar's success by film, or post-converting,
Transformers 3 in 3D.
Mr. Bay addressed these decisions head-on on
In the House. "It's a process we're testing with some
Transformers scenes," he said.
"How successful it is with my movie in terms of a lot of real stuff coming out of the frame, real dirt, real complicated little particles coming towards the lens, because hopefully that process will work. I've seen some tests that look great on other movies. I just want to see how it looks on my footage."
Transformers 3 is slated for a July 1, 2011 with filming locations set for
Chicago and Moscow with a script from Ehren Kruger.
