We know that throughout BotCon 2008, all of the news from various different series can get rather convoluted and can lose track. Well, to help you out, we are putting together some news roundups that will guide you through the process of the news that was revealed last weekend.
THE CARTOON
- There will be a larger focus on Cybertron in the future episodes, as well as more emphasis on action and adventure. Also, the Decepticons will play a bigger role.
- Megatron has a new “master plan” involving Professor Sumdac and the Autobot Space Bridge program.
- Constructicons are on the horizon.
- There will be an upcoming female character who, unlike Blackarachnia and Arcee, will not have a tragic past.
- Oil Slick is a toy-only character for the moment, but he may show up in season three.
- Blurr will be in the Elite Guard. He is voiced by his original G1 voice actor, the fast-talking John Moschitta.
- A feature film is questionable, but it is possible there will be a straight-to-DVD movie if the ratings stay strong.
- The writers revealed that the series takes place in the 22nd century.
- At least for now, Starscream is dead.
- The series is animated in widescreen HD, but shown in full screen on television.
- Sari’s backpack from the preview clip has been written out of the show, but it may appear later.
- A possible appearance by Waspinator was hinted at, but not specifically confirmed or denied. The Cartoon Network team stated that they would try to get Scott McNeil, Waspinator’s original voice actor, to voice the role, but could not guarantee his involvement.
- There are currently no plans to include Unicron or more Dinobots in the series.
- It was revealed that the voice actors ad lib often during the recording sessions.
- Cartoon Network pushed for a female lead. Hasbro was hesitant to agree, but the end result was good.
- Swindle, Ratbat, and Galvatron were strongly hinted to make an appearance in upcoming seasons.
DVD
- The pilot movie will be released on DVD in June. The rest of season one will follow in August. To own the entire first season, you will need to buy both releases.
THE TOYS | BotCon Galleries: Animated Toy Display | Swoop, Sentinel Prime on display
- The toy launch date is June 22.
- The full licensing program for the toyline will begin in August, when stores reset their displays. The leader class may initially show up during this time period.
- Blurr is coming, and has “holo-wheels.”
- A G1-inspired Swindle is coming soon.
- Prowl will see a deluxe re-release with a sidecar that transforms into armor. Also, the problems with his mold’s hands will be fixed.
- There will be a Skywarp figure, who will be a redeco of Starscream. There will also be a Thundercracker, and possibly more Seekers that will probably not appear in the series.
- There is an upcoming Shockwave figure.
- Wreck-Gar is going to be a voyager class figure, and will transform into a garbage truck.
- Jetfire and Jetstorm will see a voyager two-pack release. Both are jets with similar molds, and are colored in a “fire and ice” theme.
- There are currently no plans for Animated Robot Heroes.
- Hasbro is currently fleshing out plans for an Arcee figure.
- Sentinel Prime, Swoop, Elite Guard Bumblebee, and Ultra Magnus were all revealed. They will be released in September 2008. Ultra Magnus will be a leader class figure, while the rest will all be available at the deluxe price point. Soundwave, Snarl, Blackarachnia, and Jazz were also displayed.
THE COMICS
- There will be a limited, 5-issue comic book series by IDW that will fit into the continuity of the animated series.
- The comics are written by Marty Isenberg, and take place during season one.
- Each issue will be a self-contained story.
- The first issue will retell the pilot movie from different points of view and the remaining four issues will be brand new stories fitting within the season one continuity.

Has there been any indication Rodimus will show up? I'm trying to think how he'd work in a show like this with Optimus already taking on a number of Rodimus and Optimus Primal traits. If I were to do Rodimus, I think I'd play up the "reincarnation of Primus" Japanese angle or ... read more |

Well, I glad that there won't be Unicron in this series I'm so over that story its getting old... I just hope that the rumour about BB turning into HotShot is false and Rodimus Prime won't be a a**hole like Sentienel Prime.... Yeah to Skywarp and TC coming.... |

Interested in Prowl's new armor, but I'll probably still pick up the initial release. It was expected, but I'm glad Skywarp's confirmed. The Jetfire/Jetstorm combo sounds cool. |

Good idea. I can see where some people would take it to mean the whole gestalt team. And I doubt that would happen. I believe the writers were implying that only two Constructicons would appear. |
