BotCon 2009 Begins With Customization Classes

By Ender on Thursday, May 28, 2009

Shawn Tessman has taught the Figure Customization classes at Botcon for 4 years now. Beginning as a volunteer post that evolved into a staff position, Shawn is joined every year by new students eager to hone their kitbashing skills as well as an enthusiastic group of repeat participants. More after the jump.

This year’s project, a Shattered Glass Thunderclash, is intended to Power Link with last years effort, Shattered Glass Nightbeat, into the super warrior Nightclash. Talk about exclusives, the only way to get one of these is to build it with your own two hands.

Previous Projects included a Cybertron Scrapmetal altered into either a Universe Rumble or Inferno, and an Overkill made from Classics Grimlock.

Participants start with the factory kit, unpainted, still on the plastic trees. A bizarre array of tools meant for other purposes flowed through the busy hands of hard working fans. Hand cleanser used for sanding, leather punches used to insert pins, watch repair tools, all repurposed for the delicate art of toy assembly and modification.

Sean would like to send his regards to "Stogie" who could not help with the class this year because he is deployed in Iraq.

Pretty neat, but a bit odd that a "Shattered Glass" version of Thunderclash would look so much like a naked Ultra Magnus (or Universe Checkpoint). I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the flipped version which I guess would be called "Thunderbeat". Emerje
