Creating a Common System for Counting Transformers

By News_Staff on Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Thanks to Goktimus Prime who is running a project called the Universal Counting Method (UCM). The project was created for the purposes of an annual survey poll that asks collectors how many Transformers they own.

For this poll to work there is a need for a common method of counting Transformers in order for comparative data to work. The UCM purely exists for the purposes of comparing Transformers collections for the poll... otherwise you can count your Transformers however you like.

Please take a moment to lend a hand to the Universal Counting Method project and vote in Poll now running on the forums. Thanks!

I'm sorry but I still don't understand why a custom has to match 100% with Article 1 since by definition a custom is well customized. I mean look at reshells do they count? Does my custom Motormaster not count since he has ko PM Prime parts for the supermode upper body and side panels on his... read more

what about the other contradictions i've previously pointed out & you've conveniently ignored? this "system" is a farce - i say do it properly or don't do it at all

There is no "side rule" being placed here, I am merely enforcing of what constitutes a Transformer: that it can only be a product manufactured under licence by Hasbro Inc. and/or Takara(TOMY) Co., Ltd. and specifically marketed as part of the "Transformers"(tm) brand. And thi... read more

Ok so ALL customs count, but only if they are entirely made from officially licensed TFs made by Has/Takomy? Ok so according to this only repaints count? That is the only way aside from head swaps that a figure can be made entirely from Official TFs. I mean if you take a tank toy gut it and rebuild... read more

Not to be a bugger, but I would think (as someone who put "none of them should count" for official comparison purposes) that the majority of those who picked "none" would probably sway their votes to one of the "repaint/retool" options. They are all so close that one ... read more

Here are the final results: 35.6% All customs count 19.3% Repaints and slight retools count but kitbashes don't 21.56% Only repaints/retools for repair & cosmetic improvement count 23.54% None of them should count Hence the new article will state that all customs count but remembe... read more

Yes, I voted for the third option. I feel it's the best way to handle customs. As far as my Bumblebee keychain, it's temporary until I get either the encore or find one. The only G1 Bumblebee I have is a red one.

So you would hopefully have voted on the third poll option - repaints and retools for repairs & cosmetic improvement. That's what I've voted on and I fully agree for the reasons you've cited. Btw the keychain Bumblebee reissue's yellow is brighter than other Bumblebees (origina... read more

I also count my mini-cons that came in a 3 pack as seperate transformers. Seriously, they are each unique individuals. It would be stupid for Hasbro to sell them seperately. How much would they go for, $.50??? I also count retoolings and repaints in my inventory. For example. I really needed ... read more
