Custom of the Week - Revenge of the Fallen Power-Up Prime by frenzy_rumble

By Garage Mod on Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Transformers Garage is on the look out for the best custom / kitbash to feature each week here and in the Transformers Garage Hall of Fame section. This week's featured custom is the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Power-Up Optimus Prime by frenzy_rumble.

It's a little more action-packed in this week's custom of the week, as we cannot do the Power-Up justice without showing you the modded versions of Optimus Prime and Jetfire.

Leader Optimus Prime

He tells us that he added some cool extras on the figure's alternate mode including rubber tires, pin striped flames, chromed rear view mirrors, poles up at front bumper, and chromed aluminum exhaust pipes cut with an angle.

He also added some articulated hands, which rotate at the wrists, and gave him some light up blue eyes, thanks to some clear blue tamiya paint on the green bulb.

Guns are from the Transformers: The Movie Optimus Prime (one's flipped) and added some stuff to them cosmetically and internally so they can clip onto his hands.

Keep your eyes peeled for another gallery from "frenzy_rumble," which will feature removable swords.

Leader Jetfire

Jetfire itself has not been modded that help with the overall figure: added very bright LEDs to his turbines; made the arm kibble on his forearms removable (because it's not there in the movie); painted his alt mode flat black, masked off the decals/graphics, then dusted it with a charcoal grey; and modded his hands so the fingers all articulate and move independently.

Power-Up Optimus Prime

Finally, the part you've been waiting for. To help with the actual combination of the figures, "frenzy_rumble" made some modifications. By altering where Jetfire's nose sits on the shoulders and "I think the way they follow the shoulders is a lot more accurate."

He also added some magnetically attached feet on his feets and added some wings. "There are 2 small wings which flair out from behind his wheels on his lower legs, they also clip around and onto the sides... and 2 small wings from the sides of his chest."

i also think that hasbro will jack up the price if they increase the paint detail to all the toys they make. i think instead of getting hired by hasbro, FR should start his own custom toy store, his works were really amazing

I've seen this one from F/R and its amazing. His customs almost discourage me from doing my own there so damn good. I am working on something special right now though...

SCREW THAT!!! Have you heard any of the horror stories about their Masters of the Universe line? Entire stocks of figures selling out in less than an hour; website problems that cause orders to go unregistered; scalpers allowed to purchase any number of figures they want!
7:03 pm

I agree with you. Probably for different reasons though. All the negative things I have heard about FR have left a bad taste in my mouth. Sure the detail looks good, could Hasbro do it? Yes. Should they? Only if you want to pay $100+ for a deluxe figure. The time and money it would take Has... read more

I have to side with Hasbro on this matter. Does this custom Power-Up Prime look incredibly awesome? Yes. Is it better than what I can find on the shelves? Yes. Would I pay upwards of $200 for it? Hell no. People seem to forget these toys are aimed at kids first and foremost. As I'v... read more

Am I the only one that disagrees that Hasbro should hire this guy? If they do, prices for Transformers will boost high, I mean higher than Masterpiece prices. I understand there are a lot of fans that love detai. For someone like me, I just wanna spend a couple bucks for a decent looking transformer... read more

More Age of Extinction News
Deadline is reporting tonight that Hasbro Studios and Paramount have reassigned Akiva Goldsman away from writing the next Transformers movie. Apparently so pleased with his success leading the Transformers writers room, he will go on now to run a similar project for GI Joe, and then again for Micronauts when time comes to develop that property for film. Reportedly Goldsman will still have a supervisory role over the Transformers movie scripts, but will not be directly contributing to them himself. Keep reading for more on the new writers being negotiated and the original article link below.
Prime 1 Studios continues its series of extravagantly detailed - and plain old extravagant - statues of the Movie Transformers! Limited to a run of 1500, with 500 including an exclusive severed Brawl head, Ironhide sports LEDs in his head and his cannons, and will set you back $1600 USD. Luckily there's a nice gallery of photos available so you can give it a nice, thorough look-over before you buy - keep reading to see!
We have our first good out of package look at the surprise movie Sideswipe figure that appeared for order on RobotKingdom this weekend. Thanks to Jimmy Yu and Ck Wong on Facebook, we've got several nice shots of the figure, showing off its extensive silver paintjob. Between that and being the Dark of The Moon mold, this may be the best overall representation of movie Sideswipe out there. Now, if only we knew why it was given AOE Crosshairs' guns... Click through to see all the photos!
RobotKingdom has posted a listing for a brand new entry in the Movie Advanced Series, a limited edition release of Sideswipe. Based on the Dark Of The Moon Deluxe mold and for some reason including weapons from Age of Extinction Crosshairs, it becomes overall quite inexplicable! RobotKingdom has this as shipping on November 14, and as we have no word on other release avenues for this, it might be a good idea to jump on now if you're interested. Click through to see the in-package photos!
Vending Times has reported on the third iteration of Sega's Transformers: Human Alliance arcade cabinet. An arcade-style lightgun shooter, this new "Super Deluxe" version of the cabinet sports an 80-inch screen and mounted lightguns with recoil action. Said to be "about the size of a kid's bedroom," it should be pretty easy to tell if the version you see is the Super Deluxe. Keep reading for more details and a link!
