First Look at Transformers: Age of Extinction Optimus Prime Action Figure Reveals Sword and Key Accessories

Just in from the New Your Comic-Con The Night Before press event from Hasbro are images giving us our first look at the Transformers: Age of Extinction Optimus Prime Action Figure. The figure is the leader class toy, features the new Optimus Prime Western Star truck design and has a key type accessory as well as a large star-saber type sword. These items add some support to the sightings of other weapons of this type during production filming. The toys will be $44.99 USD with a May 1, 2014 release date.

The Leader Scale OPTIMUS PRIME figure from Hasbro is part of the TRANSFORMERS brand’s popular GENERATIONS action figure line and is inspired by the upcoming TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION movie from Paramount Pictures. This impressive figure is the first to be revealed from the highly anticipate 2014 TRANSFORMERS line. This extraordinary OPTIMUS PRIME figure features all new deco, converts from robot to vehicle and is styled in the character’s new look as he will appear in TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION. Additional features and accessories including an impressive new sword and shield let fans relive the action of the blockbuster movie series. Perhaps emboldened by the amazing success of Marvel's take on a shared continuity for its increasingly numerous movies and now TV projects, Hasbro has made known their plans to try this approach with the Transformers movie series. But what can we expect from this direction, and how might it affect Transformers 5? Keep reading for some thoughts.
In what may be remembered as the least surprising news of 2015, it sounds like Michael Bay will be returning again for the next installment in the Transformers film series. At CinemaCon, Vice Chairman of Paramount Rob Moore was said to have "promised" theatre owners attending the event that Bay was already in the process of developing the next Transformers movie. It was previously reported that Bay had opted to take on a different project which would keep him from directing a fifth Transformers movie. Keep reading for more!
Entertainment Weekly confirms that Hasbro has hired writer Akiva Goldsman to head up the writing team that will work on expanding the Transformers movie world into a broader cinematic franchise. CEO Brian Goldner revealed this in Hasbro's quarterly earnings conference call yesterday, and added that Transformers 5 is expected in 2017. A director is not mentioned, and while Michael Bay was named in connection with the project in rumors it's entirely logical that the financially successful director would be consulted on what "his" franchise would do next. The TransformersAsia Facebook page has posted a wealth of images of the new Ultimate Optimus Prime, showing off what almost has to be the definitive version of Optimus as he appeared in Transformers (2007), Revenge Of The Fallen, and Dark Of the Moon. Featuring comparisons to the previous APS-01 release, Ultimate Prime features lots more paint and a tremendous loadout of weapons.
