Transformers G1 Ultra Magnus New Commemorative Reissue Version Has Tall Stacks and Short Missiles!

By Jack on Friday, December 07, 2012

I don't know how this happened, but I think fans are going to approve, and not if you already got yours, Hasbro released a new production run of the G1 Ultra Magnus Commemorative Reissue that is a new version. The popular reissue is now back in stock with all of the original accessories, including full length smoke stacks and short missiles. Has the era of impotent Transformers ended? The figure is in-stock now for $79.99 USD at bigbadtoystore.com

Ultra Magnus’ accessories include his laser gun, missile launchers and missiles, small robot fists, large robot fists, large robot head, cab connectors, and chest shield.

Ultra Magnus is characterized as the archetypal soldier, a stoic warrior with unsurpassed courage who is disinclined towards the prospect of leadership. A large powerful robot, he possesses launchers capable of hitting a target 30 miles away. In Transformers: The Movie, Optimus Prime passes the Matrix to Ultra Magnus; the latter, believing himself unworthy of the role of leader, accepts the mystic vessel reluctantly. Soon after, Ultra Magnus rallies the remaining Autobots as the Decepticons, now led by Galvatron, launch a follow-up attack against Autobot City. Piloting the vehicle mode Cyclonus, Galvatron, eager to gain access to the Matrix of Leadership, resolves to destroy Ultra Magnus. Dividing their ranks, the Autobots board a pair of shuttles and withdraw from Earth. On the Planet of Junk, Magnus makes a valiant stand again Galvatron and the Sweeps to buy escape time for his comrades. Failing to open the Matrix and unleash its power, Magnus is swiftly blasted apart by the Sweeps. In the aftermath of the battle, however, Magnus’ remains are collected and reconstructed by the Junkions.

So, I got the Ultra Magnus that I ordered from BBTS. The information provided in this news is incorrect. Ultra Magnus has the short smokestacks and long missiles. The copyright does say 2012, so it's not an old release.

Makes no difference anymore. It is right here to buy in the USA for a nice price.

Actually it's still a mystery as to why TRU MP OP got to keep his stacks, collapsable or not, they're still much longer what safety standards would normally call for. The only reasonable explanation is a change in classification which would reclassify MP OP from being a childs toy to an adu... read more

I suspect that TRU MP Optimus Prime got to keep the long stacks because the stacks are designed to move up and down.

Don't get too excited. My understanding is that Hasbro made these for the Asian market so it makes sense that they wouldn't be prone to US safety standards. Long missiles are still a safety requirement in the US. The short stacks are another story, TRU MP Optimus has long stacks. Emerje

Ooh, neat. I got the Japanese reissue years ago, but I'll buy this one, now that I know it's got the proper smokestacks and missiles. It's Christmas 1986 all over again, only this time the wheels are rubber and Ultra Magnus' face is painted.

It's been... what, maybe a couple weeks now? Which means it's time for another Japanese toy show. Today, courtesy of TAG Hobby, we've got new shots of Kotobukiya's upcoming D-Style model kits of Starscream, Skywarp, & Thundercracker, and they look pretty good! While Skywarp and Thundercracker are running in terror at the sight of Megatron, Starscream seems to have skipped straight to the dry heaves. Keep reading to see the images!
Multiple outlets have reported that Herb Trimpe, the first artist to draw Wolverine and GI Joe, has passed away suddenly at the age of 75. As an artist for Marvel Comics, Trimpe drew a handful of issues of the G1 Transformers comic, as well as GI Joe vs The Transformers and the covers to the Transformers Universe miniseries. By all accounts he was a much loved and respected comics artist and human being, and will be missed. More details on Mr. Trimpe's career after the jump.
At East Coast Comic Con this past weekend, Marvel Comics inker Dave Hunt had a selection of his work on display, and included among these pages are parts of an unpublished adaptation of the season three cartoon episode Dweller In The Depths. Reportedly issues like this were prepared as backups in case the normal monthly storylines weren't turned in on time. Only a few pages survive to today, but Roboplastic Apocalypse was able to take photos, which were posted to their Facebook page. Click through, and have a look!
Optimus Prime! Transforms from tractor trailer to robot with headquarters and back. That’s the whole point of Transformers, figures that can be converted between modes. While the process of going between configurations is an important one, we can often attach more importance to factors such as appearance, scale, accessories, aesthetics, posability and the like. But this week, I will be listing my personal top 5 transformation sequences across all the official Hasbro and Takara Tomy Transformers toys that I have had the pleasure of experiencing.
