GM Officially Admits Chevy Volt In Transformers 2

By bwbm on Tuesday, September 02, 2008

General Motors officially confirmed today that the Chevrolet Volt vehicle will be making an appearance in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." We have recently seen a blue version of the vehicle driving around on the street. While it is different from the concept, it "is not the final version at this stage," says GM spokesman Rob Peterson.

Speaking with Edmund's Inside Line, Mr. Peterson said that the vehicle was "representative of the production vehicle."

He also reveals that he was caught off guard by the video, saying, "I didn't even realize it (the Volt) was out of the state of Michigan."

Inside Line speculates that because the vehicle is not the final production vehicle, it is possible that the vehicle is used in the way that the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was used in "Transformers" and sits on top of a Chevrolet Cobalt or Chevrolet Malibu chassis.

The concept version was built on top of the Delta platform, the same one that underpins the current Chevrolet Cobalt.

The Camaro that served as Bumblebee's alternate mode in the first film was actually a fiber glass mold that sat on top of a Pontiac GTO platform. The vehicle that doubles as Bumblebee's alternate mode in the sequel will be the actual production version.

The online automotive website has learned that the vehicle has only been filmed for a day or so and is not a Transformer. Inside Line expects the vehicle to take up very little screen time in the final version of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
