Hasbro Releases 4th Quarter Earnings

 Hasbro Inc. has released their 4th quarter earnings, which includes the holiday shopping season, and their results for the year 2004. Read on to see how well they performed. NEW YORK (Reuters) - Hasbro Inc (NYSE:HAS - News), the No. 2 U.S. toy maker, on Monday reported fourth-quarter earnings rose 7.2 percent, after cutting costs to offset a tougher retail environment and declines at its U.S. toys unit.
Hasbro, which makes My Little Pony and Mr. Potato Head toys, said net earnings rose to $82.1 million, or 44 cents per share, in the quarter ended Dec. 26, from $76.6 million, or 41 cents per share, a year earlier.
Analysts, on average, had expected profit of 49 cents per share, according to Reuters Estimates.
Revenue fell to $1.06 billion from $1.12 billion a year ago.
"Our top-line results reflect a tougher retail environment in the fourth quarter than we expected, as well as a disappointing performance in the U.S. toys segment, primarily related to softness in our boys business," Chief Executive Alfred Verrecchia said in a statement.
Hasbro, based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, had a strong 2003 with popular items like its lifelike plush animals Furreal Friends, spinning tops Beyblades, and VideoNow handheld video player. The company has also capitalized on classic brands like My Little Pony, Transformers and Trivial Pursuit.
Revenue in the U.S. Toys segment, which includes products like the Easy-Bake oven, Tonka trucks and Play-Doh, fell to $263.7 million from $318.9 million a year ago, hurt by softness in the boys business, including lower revenue from the high-margin Beyblades.
International revenue rose to $504.9 million from $477.2 million a year ago, with the weak dollar contributing $31.8 million.

Could it be that you could trip and break your neck on an Ironhide yet stare til you go blind trying to find a Mirage (which I did find months later)? Or maybe it's all those lame redecos they did instead of investing more money to have individually designed gestalt members? Who's to say? (rolls eyes) Morons... |

My kids love the diescast!! And incase anyone from HASBLOW is reading this, my kids and their friends are wanting a re-issue of the G1 Megatron since I won't let them near my original. They prefer the gun instead of the tank, plane, t-rex versions you try to force down their throats!! |

I absolutely agree that poor distibution and lack of new figures being available has been a significant problem. I don't understand why we needed a repiant of Ironhide when there's still a million of the old ones on the shelves, but with the exception of a few very disappointing figures in the beginning, Transformers Energon has had some of the most playable, innovative designs the history of transformers has ever seen. As much as I love the Gen 1 line, and the heaviness of metal, The new toys are more detailed, far more posable and take much more abuse than their gen 1 counterparts. |
