Help Fund a Project to Build at 1:1 scale BumbleBee From Old-school VW
BaCon - Thursday, June 16, 2011

OK Transformer fans... It is time that the O.G. BumbleBee got his time in the spotlight! A Sculpture project in Nashville, TN by Rick Prince is planned to create a life-sized sculpture of our yellow pal in robot mode. Rock caught wind of a new take on the old design and believes it needs to exist in the real world for all of us geeks to gather around and celebrate, take pics, and exchange our Transformer stories by his side. Rick is presently raising money to make it happen. You can help help with a donation of as little as $1. Read more details after the jump.

Details from Rick's Fundraising Page:

OK Transformer fans... It is time that the O.G. BumbleBee got his time in the spotlight!

My plan is to create a life-sized sculpture of our pal in robot mode. I caught wind of a new take on the old design and believe it needs to exist in the real world for all of us geeks to gather around and celebrate, take pics, and exchange our Transformer stories by his side.

I have already had a HUGE positive response to this project here in Nashville, TN and online through Facebook with over 80 followers in the first unofficial week!

So far, there is only one attempt I can find online at doing what I am about to do. I like that one, but I will be doing a TOTALLY DIFFERENT style more similar to this : Gundam

My experience and plan in short: I have created large sized sculptures and animatronic characters for theme parks such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, and to private collectors for more than ten years and feel 100% confident in this project.

The plan is to debut BumbleBee live to the world at GMX here in Nashville Tennessee in October the 21st thru 23rd! After that he will travel...maybe to your city!

He will be fabricated using a real Volkswagen Beetle that will be cut into specific sections and reassembled into BumbleBee in robot mode. Other materials such as: aluminum, steel, carbon-fiber, HOK (House of Kolor) SG102 Chrome Yellow will be used to make him awesome! He will have power to the head/tail lights and blinkers, as well as having a killer sound system. He is designed to be transportable in sections that will safely be assembled in place.

The funding will go toward the purchase the VW parts car (or individual body panels) and materials needed to make our twenty-foot tall protector. If we exceed our base financial goal, I would like to add some movement to articulate him.

There is a team in place to spread the word across our city here in Nashville and to reach out to the world across the web.

My first name is Sam... I need my best Cybertronian friend to stand by my side.

Will you help me create him? Please help fund this project with a donation of as little as $1 USD made on the 1:1 scale BumbleBee (old-school VW) Kickstarter Fundraising Page

Once again, Twitter user @miiakira2017 has posted an image of their Transformers-related design work. Today, it's a classic car- the specific make, if any, eludes RAC - that would have turned into a laser pistol-wielding cowboy. Though there's a slight resemblance to 2010's Hunt for the Decepticons Scout-class Hubcap, the replies peg this as a Diaclone-era design, so well before that figure was designed and likely a coincidence. Keep reading to see!
