By bwbm on Monday, January 17, 2011

I-Gear has posted some images on their Facebook page to update us on their current work in progress, the scout-sized classic Volkswagen Beetle. We first learned about this new custom earlier this month. The images show off the yellow Bumblebee version as well as the red Cliffjumper version in both vehicle and robot mode. Take a look at the images in the gallery.

That's because they bootlegs. No new engineering, no improvements, just changing the vehicle parts to look like a Beetle.

These pieces of crap are up for pre-order. $18.00 each or $30 for the pair. (link)

It looks like the same figure to me, apart from making him more Beetle-like. It looks like it transforms exactly like the official Legends class. Remold may not be the right term, but this is obviously based on the Hasbro mold. If they hand made some functional change, I'd be tempted, but as is... read more

That robot mode is disappointing. I'll pass on this. What happened to the other mold that was a modern VW Beetle? Is this that same mold, but they decided to make it the classic Beetle instead?

If only they could have come up with better looking and more articulated arms, I would have gotten it. But the field is still open. Someone out there do a new deluxe size Bumblebee/Cliffjumper that transforms into an old style beetle and I'd love to get it.

More Third Party News
When you ask what a Mirage body-type can be reused as, you have to remember that in recent years a new options has joined the list. DX9 Toys have revealed Cocomone, based on the GoBots character Crasher, by way of the Movie-Classics figure Fracture. This figure is said to be relatively limited production, so if you're in a mood for more non-Transformers references in your third parties, head to your retailer of choice and grab a preorder. Meanwhile, click through and check out the photos!
Genetic of TFND has posted an extensive gallery of photos of the Perfect Effect PC-01 & PC-02 upgrade kits for Combiner Wars figures! Designed with Superion and Menasor in mind, respectively, these kits turn from more articulated hands and feet for your combiners to more convincing weapons for said combiners. It even looks good on Defensor - keep reading to check it out!
Though it currently lacks a codename for itself, ToyWorld has unveiled a prototype of the Swoop component of their team of Masterpiece-scale Dinobots. The design takes very much after classic Swoop in having an extremely square beast mode, though it leads to a nice looking robot. Seen here also is the entire ToyWorld dinosaur team combined together, albeit made about half of prototype figures at this stage. Click through and have a look!
Through the Facebook page of The Falcon's Hangar, we have our first look at a new Mastermind Creations recolor. Alas, despite bearing the name Grandus Hexatron, it is not a third party take on everyone's favorite city block/carrier/coffee table from Battlestars. Instead this is a retool of Hexatron as the character Greatshot from Transformers Victory, who was an Autobot retool of the original Sixshot. Price and release info is to be announced, but for now click through and check out the photos!
Pictures of what looks to be a retail-ready production sample of Iron Factory's small-scale Ultra Magnus figure have popped up via a couple of Weibo accounts. One gives a good quick overview of the Magnus-based figure itself, while the other teases what's obviously a Diaclone, Powered Convoy based deco ...along with one more in just red and white that we aren't quite sure what it is, assuming it's anything more than just a random-colors testshot. Click through to have a look and decide for yourself!
