IDW and Hasbro Reveal CHAOS Details, Death of Optimus Prime, Deceptigod, and more!

IDW Publishing and Hasbro held a press conference and revealed some MAJOR points to what is going on in Transformers Ongoing. It must be stressed that there are images and straight put plot points that lead to the outcome of the current Chaos, so if you are trying to avoid spoilers about the state of plot that is coming out bi-weekly currently you may want to stop reading!

SPOILERS RECAPPED BELOW:

During the press conference, NEW Senior Editor John Barber gave a preview of upcoming pages from the ongoing Chaos storyline, IDW Publishing showed off a character that they are currently calling "Deceptigod."

Who is he?

The character is "the ultimate version of [Transformers 'Combiners'] with all the Sweeps, all the Decepticons forming together into one enormous Transformer," says Barber, paraphrasing Comic Book Resources, who the conference call and presentation was with.

"That's going to pose quite a problem for the Autobots during 'Chaos,'" he continues.

Barber suggests maybe Megatron can stop this Deceptigod, and then again maybe not? "The one guy who might be able to stop the Deceptigod is Megatron -- or will this be Megatron's last stand?"

IDW Publishing revealed the December-bound issue previously titled Transformers #125 has now been classified as a one-shot simply titled "The Death of Optimus Prime." This change appears mostly to make it less confusing in the long run, but the issue will continue to celebrate 125 issues of IDW continuity.

Following this epic issue, the Generation 1 continuity will be split into two ongoing books: "Robots In Disguise", written by John Barber and art by Andrew Griffith; and "More Than Meets the Eye" written by James Roberts and art by Nick Roche. Barber says while these books are separate, they will be related as "James and I are working closely together."

How will the Autobots deal with the death of Optimus Prime? Or even the possible suggestion of Megatron's end as well? "That's an interesting question. That's very much something that's going to be addressed in the series." Barber said. The suggestion was given that for the Decepticons there'd be a "free-for-all and a power grab" but for the Autobots there is less of a "lust for power" and "they put other people's interests at heart." But even more interesting is the revelation that other non-aligned Transformers will be making an appearance and will have to chose what side they will join.

It should be mentioned that IDW's continuity is strictly that. These storylines are there to provide great storytelling and will not affect the rest of the Hasbro continuity, movies and current cartoon story arcs. Hasbro was very specific about this information. They have a great working relationship with IDW, "We got into a partnership with IDW because we like what they do and we know they know what they are doing."

There are also plenty of beautiful pages of artwork revealed for Chaos and possible work from the upcoming "Death of Optimus Prime."
