Kreon Upgrade Kit Adds Limb Extensions for More Articulation Then Meets the Eye

By Wu Long Ti on Monday, November 12, 2012

These arrived on my birthday and they fit awesome! I need to make a few minor tweaks to the knee connectors (shave off one of the pegs) and the hands.

The hands had the column for the axle filled in with either support or WST material and I ended up "drilling" them out using the sharpened end of a straight paper clip. it was terrifying. I then cut pieces of paper clip to length and used as axles for the finger joints.

It worked, but I can't expect anybody that goes for this kit to do the same so I'm going to have to work out another solution. I might try a half ball/recess friction connection but I worry that it will keep popping out.

Other than that, this is working exactly how I wanted :D

Joints are articulated enough for a 3 point landing (the Ironman pose)

for those interested, I've setup an account on Sculpteo as well as on shapeways. The prices tend to be a little higher, but from what I gather, you get a faster turn-around time and there are more color options. All of the colors are available in polished as well, where as on shapeways only th... read more

Maybe you have a different expectation of what "explode" means than what Sketchup thinks it means. In SU it's basically just "ungroup", so if you're looking for more than that then maybe it's called something else. If you click on your model and the whole thing is... read more

K, I have the latest free Sketchup and it will not allow me to 'explode' parts.

K, I'll have to look at "exploding" my parts. I worked on an armor set for ROTF/DOTM Optimus Prime last night and couldn't find how to stitch multiple pieces together. In blender I can join vertices but in Sketchup haven't been able to manipulate vertices yet. Sketchup is n... read more

You can chop up or merge objects/groups/components with the free version, you just have to "explode" them first. I think that the only difference between the free and the pro versions have to do with interactions with some architecture program and "corporate licensing".

I'm using Sketchup free, that lip idea would have been good, I already ordered my prototype, so we'll see how it goes

That's what I see most heads for articulated papercraft gundams do and it works well enough. If you give a slight lip to your socket to keep the ball from falling right back out if the figure falls over then that might meet the requirements of having a ball socket. What program are you using?

Yeah, after much trial and error I finally got a working sphere... however since I did not purchase the full version of the program I cannot cut, or merge objects, so my efforts ended up being very pointless.... still gonna get my Tailgate head proto, he'll have an empty peg hole at the base of... read more

In an incredible display of relevance, the group Shadow Fisher has unveiled via their Weibo page a set of upgrade parts for Colossus, Fansproject's attempt to improve the Energon-era Combaticon set. Given limited availability of all the required base parts at this stage, and subsequent Bruticus options, the market demand for this is questionable at best. Shadow Fisher has images of the combined form and individuals using the new parts, which seem to be CG laid over photos for demonstration purposes. Keep reading to check it out.
Facebook user Stanley Cheung has shared photos of SparkToys' upcoming figure based on Dreamwave's The War Within Optimus Prime design. This prototype was on display at an unspecified location, and is most likely the same piece seen in photos recently. The figure is secured in a clear display case, permitting views of both modes. We've got the photos mirrored, so click through and take a look!
As they prepare for their second crowdfunding campaign, Play With This Too has released a photo of their prototype Boneyard figure - based on Grimlock's Pretender Shell - with full paint. Promising information about the "remix" Kickstarter campaign in the near future, Play With This Too is taking a more active lead on this one with a full new figure prototype to show before any fundraising gets underway. We're very hopeful that this effort will be successful, and Boneyard and figures like it will be available for purchase in the near future. Keep reading to see the full promo image.
Lunar Toy Store has shared an image of SparkToys' companion to War Within Optimus Prime, a War Within-style Megatron figure! Currently it's at the concept design phase, but given the positive response to WW Optimus Prime it's got a pretty fair chance. Read on to see the image!
An update posted to the Weibo page of Dr Wu shows an image with three different styles of Mixmaster face, and unlike the early prototype recently shown, these are cartoon based, like the faces of the official Constructicon toys. Whether this points to the final product giving the option through replacement parts, or it's acknowledging fan response and moving off the original toy based head is uncertain right now. Stay tuned for more updates, and keep reading to see the full size image!
