Masterpiece MP-13 Soundwave Laserbeak, MP-14 Red Alert Prototypes 1st Looks; Amazon Japan Exclusive Energon Cubes w/ Soundwave

By Peter Van on Wednesday, June 13, 2012

As a precursor to Tokyo Toy Show, everything that Takara Tomy was hoping to keep a lid on has come out. First it was the colored looks at Transformers Masterpiece MP-12 Sideswipe and now gray prototype images of MP-13 Soundwave and Laserbeak and MP-14 Red Alert have been posted on Amazon Japan.

The retailer will offer exclusive Energon cubes with MP-13 Soundwave.

The images show off Soundwave and his cassette minion Laserbeak in both robots and their alternate cassette player and cassette modes; and Red Alert in robot and vehicle modes.

Amazon will exclusively offer two Energon cubes with MP-13 Soundwave.

This is similar to the pile drivers the retailer is offering on the MP-12 Lambor.

The figures are due in December 2012 with Soundwave reported to cost 15800 Yen (~$199 USD) and Red Alert for 5800 Yen (~$73 USD). Additional information may be revealed by Takara this weekend at the Tokyo Toy Show.

Looks like that extra arcade money I've been saving up is going somewhere else! Also it looks like Soundwave's buttons are pushable on the front.

And of course the last step in the life-cycle of Masterpiece Star Saber is here: reviews! Chuckdawg1999 has begun a new "Masterpiece Theatre" review series, and where else would you start with that but the most hyped MP of all? At 33 minutes, this is a pretty extensive look at the figure. Keep reading to see!
Toys R Us Australia has added product pages to their website for the Hasbro release of Masterpiece Bluestreak, as well as their import version of Star Saber. While Star Saber is no different to the Japanese release, the new high-res stock photos of Bluestreak give a chance to compare between it and the original TakaraTomy edition. Click through and check out the images for this toy sure to be headed to North American stores soon!
U.NEM Studios has posted a preliminary photo shoot for MP-23 Exhaust! Only the packaging and Vehicle Mode are covered up to this point, but the photos are extremely well-done, and we'll be keeping an eye out for the subsequent rounds of photos as they go up. If you couldn't secure this elusive Masterpiece, this gallery of photos may well be the next best thing. Keep reading to see!
Here's my review of the new Transformers Masterpiece MP-24 Star Saber! I didn't expect it to run so long at 45 minutes, so I have rambled a little bit LOL!! But there were a lot of different things to go through with the figure.
Toynes.jp has posted its weekly toy sales rankings, and it pegs an interesting item in the top position. Leading its "comprehensive" Top 5 is Masterpiece Star Saber which with its 3/21 release date just barely made the reporting period from March 16th to 22nd. Following it in the list are two items from the current Super Sentai series, and two Yokai Watch items. While we can't be sure if this counts delivered presales, on the spot purchases, or both, it's not hard to imagine Star Saber was a big seller on its release weekend and may have been the biggest of all!
