Mini-Con Battle Packs: Reworking The Execution of Robots In Disguise Mini-Cons?
ExVee - Saturday, October 24, 2015

Among the new product listings that went live tonight were a pair of "Mini-Con Battle Packs", one for Optimus, and one for Sideswipe. With no image attached, their nature seemed unclear, until we remembered one of the promotional images released during New York Comic Con showing a recolored Optimus carrying a sword Mini-Con. Digging more, we found a similar looking image featuring Fracture's Warrior Class mold. Is the focus of the Mini-Con line changing in 2016? Keep reading for more!

The initial assortment of Mini-Cons in RID were geared around the Deployer toys of Drift and Fracture, being made around the concept of launcher battles. Additional use of a sort was introduced by letting the Mini-Cons attach to the large easy-conversion Optimus toy, but it was still a narrow field of interaction. It looks like the 2016 series will at least to some degree take a new turn and increase line-wide compatibility by making Mini-Cons become weapons that can be used by anything with 5mm compatible hands. Given the second assortment of Deployers, the launcher play doesn't seem to be going away, but it may be supplemented to help drive the pricepoint's relevance.

Meanwhile we don't know exactly what the Battle Packs are. The image of Optimus carrying Windstrike and the two seeming to share a major color heavily hints at a Warrior coming with a weapon Mini-Con. The subsequent image of Fracture carrying a different matched-color Mini-Con may be demonstration of a wider gimmick pattern rather than implying Fracture will be in one of the Battle Packs, or at least not immediately. BigBadToyStore lists the Battle Packs individually at $17.99. If that is a Warrior Class figure and a weapon Mini-Con packaged together, it might help to ease the apprehension some may have at a $15+ price tag for a Warrior alone in most retail settings. And if the individual Mini-Cons phase in weapon modes, it might be the boost this part of the RID lines needs.

Galvatronus, comprised of Cyclonus, Riotgear, Skyjack, Cyberwarp, and Treadshock was spotted at Toys R Us in Fort Wayne, IN by Rookbartley. Robots in Disguise is expected to be ending with the wrap up of the Combiner Force imprint, though there are still a few toys that have yet to reach retail, including two Crash Combiners. Whether any or all of these remaining products ever see distribution in the US is a big question mark right now. Keep reading to see a photo of Galvatronus on shelf!
Amazon has posted a new set of images for the Robots In Disguise: Combiner Force Legion-class Twinferno! This is the second toy of the new character, and it's looking pretty good! The last four episodes of Robots In Disguise: Combiner Force are now titled! Thanks to the website TWCC, we now know the titles - and one description - for the last round of RID. Oddly that one description isn't for the first episode in the list, but the second - but it should hopefully give a look at the direction that the series will be heading in for the home stretch. Via the McDonald's Happy Meal website, we've got the promo image for the next Happy Meal theme coming to McDonald's locations in the US. Robots in Disguise will be making its third appearance alongside a hamburger and apple chips, featuring character figures of Bumblebee, Optimus, Strongarm, and Grimlock, as well as small masks of each of the characters. As is the typical process, the promotion runs with a My Little Pony option for kids more interested in that than robots. We've copied the Transformers promo image, click through to take a look!
