By bwbm on Tuesday, September 05, 2006 @ 11:42:04 PM
"Blitz" of our TFans board has posted information from the cartoon television board ToonTalk of what may be the next upcoming Transformers cartoon. Titled "Transformers: Heroes," the leak shows that the show is slated for a fall 2007 release and will be produced by CN Studios. The cartoon is going to be U.S.-made since it will be produced by CN Studios. The order is for 26 episodes, which is a change from the 52 episode order that has been going on for the past several iterations of the Transformers cartoon.

Wow that is such a relief, don't get me wrong I like Japanese cartoons but the stuff in the Armada, Energon, and Cybertron series was a bit much. There were some great parts but some of the overdone anime and especially the crap with the kids that would take up half of an episode really turned me away. Here's to a US made show, wether or not it is animated or CGI! |

I'm tired of the shows always revolving around some anime guy's internal monologue about his feelings of fighting alongside the Autobots. Or when that's not going on its just TFs searching for stuff. How about a show that's not a scavenger hunt?
3 years of searching for minicons, energon chips, and keys... sheesh. How about just fighting some Decepticons for once?! |

It's too bad they couldn't make a series aimed at the older fans and teens/young adults akin to what Harmony Gold did with Robotech back in the 80's. I mean how could Hasbro tease kids with a kickass movie, and then go back to dumbing down the characters and stories after that?!
They could subsidize a more mature series with a TF cartoon aimed at kids that's part of a different continuity like how there's two Gundam continuities in Japan -- one being more serious than the other. |

I agree with everyone completely, although I don't share the same contempt for the beast era. I think the show had great stories, even if it is visually outdated.
Cartoon Network has yet to put out an original show with poor quality as far as I've seen. Even the toy-based action shows on the network are pretty adult accessible, so I think this is good news. Lets not forget that jamming a bunch of crazy japanese toys together and making them living robots with a new story was originally an American concept, so I think its time we got another go at it, if only to change things up. The japanese seem to like running common themes, such as the megs to galv conversion, so here's hoping for some new concepts, and maybe even a unique new style!
Unless its a classics cartoon, in which case seeing the G1 story freshly told would be fun. Here's hoping its not a cartoon based directly off of the movie designs, although I'm sure it is meant as a spin-off of sorts from the film, kinda like Batman the Animated series, as well as The Batman and the new Fantastic 4 cartoon. Here's hoping for something great! |

Cartoon Network has a hard enough time trying to organize stuff 2 months in advance, let alone a full year (especially since The Batman and Legion of Super Heroes are supposed to air by this year's end).
If this does get made, I hope they stick with Gonzo and do NOT go back to Mainframe. Mainframe hasn't been able to animate humans right at all (or heck, actual good animation in general) since ReBoot, and I doubt they'd do the Transformers any differently, especially since all the people that were around during Beast Wars/Machines were fired from Mainframe long ago. Plus, I'd prefer to NOT have my Transformers be made of malleable metal. I'd like them to be at least somewhat, you know, robotic.
If CN is helping to finance this series, that gives Gonzo more budget to work with, meaning we could see animation as good as some of their other works (Samurai 7, Burst Angel, Kiddy Grade, Basilisk, Desert Punk, Kaleido Star, Gad Guard, Full Metal Panic! Season 1, etc.). After all, Gonzo is one of the Top 10 animation companies in the world, so it'd be a shame to not use them. Although if Williams Street (the guys and gals behind Toonami and the English version of IGPX) is put in charge, Production I.G. (IGPX, Ghost in the Shell, Tales of Symphonia, etc.) will likely get the job.
Whatever studio they use, I hope they use the same designer from Cybertron, as Cybertron had the best Transformers designs since the first Transmetal line (not the horrid TM2 line), especially Megatron.
Then again, I fail to see what's so horrible about Cybertron in the first place. The animation's great, the music does the job, the story's awesome, the humans actually do stuff and don't get in the way, and the designs are excellent. The only problems with Cybertron are that it's unfairly linked with Armada and Energon (as Gonzo junked that link soon after production began) and some questionable dubbing.
