I think for anyone around my age and older, steam locomotives really have sparked our imaginations ever since childhood. It was easy to be exposed to TV, movies and other formats of period stories showing people taking trains led by these huge, black engines, billowing smoke. Transformers met this once before of course in the original Astrotrain toy, but it's not something that has been quick for a revisit in toy form. And that's a real shame.
