Review: Universe G1 Starscream Figure

By Blitzwing on Tuesday, December 30, 2008

What, yet another Classics seeker repaint? But this just isn't any repaint. This is a more anime correct portrayal of Starscream. Just in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Transformers, Hasbro has re-released Starscream with a whiter (and brighter) paintjob. Check out the review here to see if this Starscream fares any better than the original Classics version.

We could agree to disagree you know (secretly agrees with Tramp)

I disagree Nomolos. I think the older one is better, for the most part. Both look like Starscream. The Classics version is simply a more "updated" paint scheme, and definitely more dramatic. It has more paint applications, a more complex paint scheme without being "busy". It'... read more

no. I have both and the new one makes the old one look like a cheap rip-off. because it actually looks like starscream. its colors are much bolder, much sharper and the face is not the only place you notice when you have them in hand.

Once again though, the "unpainted face" is really the only problem with the original Classics Starscream, and one which is easily rectified with a little bit of black paint and some silver paint over that. Simple. OVer-all the Classics paint job is much more detailed, much more exciting, t... read more

EXCEPT.... the darker face is more accurate. And I think it looks much better than the Classics 1.0 Starscream's unpainted face. Henkei looks the best out of all 3 versions IMO, but the 2.0 Starscream looks great especially when placed next to the US Masterpiece Starscream.

I agree with most: I f you can afford to make the choice purchase the Classics version. But if you can afford the paint....

I have to say I enjoy both paint jobs, but the real downer for me on Universe Starscream is the overly-dark face. Like On Legends Brawn, the face itself is so dark a lot of the details are lost on a casual glance. I'm half tempted to toss a scarf around his neck and call him The Shadowscream. T... read more

Yeah, the Robot Masters version was done up in anime colors too, but for this one it looks like they used pretty much the exact same deco as Masterpiece SS (which is fine by me).

I have to agree with you there. The photos in this review is a bit oversaturated and the light grey gets washed out too easily. I have to say though that after having both the Classics and just buying the Universe versions of SS, I like them both rather well. the only thing about the Universe versi... read more
