"You want to go back? Back to the heart of the War?" Today is the release day for Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark! The Nerdist website has an exclusive release trailer highlighting scenes and plot points we haven't seen covered yet. Click through for a link to the trailer! To recap: the game ties together the High Moon/Aligned Continuity universe and the movie universe by way of Age of Extinction. The main game is available on all current and last-gen consoles (except for the original Wii) and is developed by Edge of Reality- a company primarily known for ports prior to now. However, the 3DS version is a Super Robot Wars-style strategy game by Wayforward Technologies, creators of the Adventure Time games as well as Contra 4, Ducktales Remastered, and many more excellent retro-themed games.
However, we can't speak to the quality of the games one way or the other because we were not provided with review copies of the game. No media outlets were... and that's often not a good sign. Just for point of comparison, we were given multiple review copies of the decently-written but otherwise mediocre Transformers: Prime game. So what it comes down to is: how do you feel about movie tie-in games?
If you want it, GameStop is worth considering. They're offering a 40% trade-in bonus on anything you want to trade towards Dark Spark, and a day one purchase gets you two tickets' worth of e-movie cash towards a viewing of Age of Extinction. Also, you can save $20 by purchasing it with Amazing Spider-Man 2. But again, this is only a day one offer... before any in-depth reviews can be released.
