RUMOR: Disney In Talks To Buy Hasbro - Transformers More Than Meets the Mouse?
Jack - Tuesday, November 06, 2012

Gosh, if there ever was a rumor I didn't want to be true. It is this one just in via MTV Geek that Disney and Hasbro are in talks about an acquisition. With the pocket-book open and Star Wars in the cart, it seem the Mouse is looking for more cheese in Hasbro's library of brands including Transformers, My Little Pony, GI Joe, Battleship, Nerf, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, and literally 100s of toys and games kids have grown up with for decades.

From what we’re told, these are still just discussions at this point, but serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry. The Lucasfilm acquisition has been reported as taking as few as 6 months to complete. On the other hand, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has until 2015 on his current contract, and he waited about 3 years in between the acquisitions of Marvel and Lucasfilm, so we may be without firm news on this for some time

Obviously, the large cache of Popular Culture properties would add to Disney's library to make a true Tour De Force in the entertainment industry. Its also not hard to imagine Hasbro's is in a position to want to be acquired either. With retail sales revenues flagging and the the slow uptake for The Hub, this could save the day and keep the channel afloat, or at least one can hope. Traditionally, acquisitions get rolled up into the parent company and it may be fans will have to watch their favorite Robot's shows on the Disney Channel if this goes down.

On the toys side, it might be good for fans and collectors to have the brand under a bigger umbrella with a bigger reach. Disney has deep pockets that hopefully would allow for more stable product roll outs and hopefully more modest pricing. With Hasbro struggling to appease Wall Street, they have raised prices over 50% in the last 5 years alone. Only time will tell what's going to happen. PLEASE, Share your comments on the possible event and what it would mean to you.

If at all. Disney would either make Botcon awesome or just axe it entirely and say to hell with the TCC. I don't know. Disney is an evil company of corporate money hungry douches but they are an intelligent hyper-rich evil company of corporate money hungry douches. It could go either way. May... read more

Wow, I really don't know what to think about this haha. It could go either way. A couple things come to mind right off ... 1) What does this mean for Takara, and joint projects like Masterpieces? 2) If it doesn't affect the MP line, does this mean we could lose TRU as their exclusive distr... read more

I think they're trying to get the toys for marvel and Star Wars "in house" and to have their own dedicated manufacturer.

On the bright side, since IL&M was just bought by Disney, at least they would have all the CGI intact. Though I'm sure it'd peeve off Paramount/Dreamworks

Oh good God no. There might be some promise (might) but, I fear the worst.

It looks like FansHobby's Gunfighter II (G2 Laser Optimus) is getting a fair bit of attention this week. FansHobby have posted a quick gallery of the current testshot, showing the poseability and accessories primarily. They note that at least some of these images are partially Photoshopped to represent the intended final deco, due to the recently highlighted design alterations delaying their ability to have their factory prepare them a deco proof sample right now. But most of the photos seem to clearly depict the plastic-colors testshot with no extra colors added anyway. Gunfighter II is expected to release in June. Keep reading for the mirrored gallery!
The Perfect Effect Origin Leonidas figure stands about 9" (23cm) tall in robot mode and contains die-cast parts. This fierce transforming beast changes from a robot warrior into a lion and boasts over 60 points of articulation.
Fanshobby has posted some new pictures to their Facebook page, showing the latest full color testshot of Gunfighter II, the Optimus Prime recolor of their Scourge/Black Convoy figure, Arch Enemy. Gunfighter II shows some of the minor revisions now that Fanshobby highlighted recently, such as the modified chest panels. Also new to this round of photography is a showing of the two guns this release will come with: both a classic G1 Optimus rifle, and the double barrel Laser Prime gun, depicted here as a prototype while the mold for it is being worked on. We've mirrored the photos below, click through to have a look!
From our forums, TMan978 has shared a video of an interesting new figure. Wei Jiang, known fairly well for making upscaled, surprisingly high quality knockoffs of both official products and the occasional third party item has recently made an upsized iteration of Generations Arcee, theoretically scaled to Masterpiece figures. There's a few other things altered with the figure too, though probably more on the minor side. Check out the embedded video below to have a look at this offering.
The Facebook page TF Robots has shared several photos showing an early prototype for what's reported as a new project from Unique Toys. Currently only identified as Y-05, the figure represents Lockdown from Age of Extinction. This is believed to be roughly Leader scale, and from the pictures is intended to include quite a bit in the way of accessories - including one of the attack dog units seen on Lockdown's ship. The robot shows little immediate sign of how it will transform, but the absence of backside images could suggest a lot of panels on the rear. We've got all the images below, keep reading to see!
