RUMOR: Disney In Talks To Buy Hasbro - Transformers More Than Meets the Mouse?
Jack - Tuesday, November 06, 2012

Gosh, if there ever was a rumor I didn't want to be true. It is this one just in via MTV Geek that Disney and Hasbro are in talks about an acquisition. With the pocket-book open and Star Wars in the cart, it seem the Mouse is looking for more cheese in Hasbro's library of brands including Transformers, My Little Pony, GI Joe, Battleship, Nerf, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, and literally 100s of toys and games kids have grown up with for decades.

From what we’re told, these are still just discussions at this point, but serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry. The Lucasfilm acquisition has been reported as taking as few as 6 months to complete. On the other hand, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has until 2015 on his current contract, and he waited about 3 years in between the acquisitions of Marvel and Lucasfilm, so we may be without firm news on this for some time

Obviously, the large cache of Popular Culture properties would add to Disney's library to make a true Tour De Force in the entertainment industry. Its also not hard to imagine Hasbro's is in a position to want to be acquired either. With retail sales revenues flagging and the the slow uptake for The Hub, this could save the day and keep the channel afloat, or at least one can hope. Traditionally, acquisitions get rolled up into the parent company and it may be fans will have to watch their favorite Robot's shows on the Disney Channel if this goes down.

On the toys side, it might be good for fans and collectors to have the brand under a bigger umbrella with a bigger reach. Disney has deep pockets that hopefully would allow for more stable product roll outs and hopefully more modest pricing. With Hasbro struggling to appease Wall Street, they have raised prices over 50% in the last 5 years alone. Only time will tell what's going to happen. PLEASE, Share your comments on the possible event and what it would mean to you.

If at all. Disney would either make Botcon awesome or just axe it entirely and say to hell with the TCC. I don't know. Disney is an evil company of corporate money hungry douches but they are an intelligent hyper-rich evil company of corporate money hungry douches. It could go either way. May... read more

Wow, I really don't know what to think about this haha. It could go either way. A couple things come to mind right off ... 1) What does this mean for Takara, and joint projects like Masterpieces? 2) If it doesn't affect the MP line, does this mean we could lose TRU as their exclusive distr... read more

I think they're trying to get the toys for marvel and Star Wars "in house" and to have their own dedicated manufacturer.

On the bright side, since IL&M was just bought by Disney, at least they would have all the CGI intact. Though I'm sure it'd peeve off Paramount/Dreamworks

There's a new MP Class figure just in from Coolsvile by way of Toy World. This guy looks quite familiar to us as G1 Jazz, but its not official. The scaling, and detail on this figure is one of the best so far with excellent proportions in robot mode. The TW-M05 Coolsville is listed to ship sometime in first quarter of this year, now on preorder at $89.99 USD from BigBadToyStore.com
Via Facebook, Perfect Effect has announced their "Beast Gorira" project has been unavoidably delayed due to holiday scheduling conflicts. The unofficial take on an updating of Optimal Optimus is now expected to release around March. They've also shared new images of a color production sample, allowing us to see this figure next to Masterpiece Optimus Primal, proving the considerable size of Beast Gorira, looking at least close to being show accurately scaled! The images are mirrored below, click through and check it out!
As Headmaster Don pointed out during a recent RFC Mini-Cast, MMC's Carnifex is a very IDW take on Overlord. If that was putting you off as well, you may be interested in these upgrade kit photos that MMC has just posted! Carnifex Continuum adds a fair number of G1 features back into your third-party unofficial Overlord toy - keep reading for the photos and details.
