RUMOR: Disney In Talks To Buy Hasbro - Transformers More Than Meets the Mouse?
Jack - Tuesday, November 06, 2012

Gosh, if there ever was a rumor I didn't want to be true. It is this one just in via MTV Geek that Disney and Hasbro are in talks about an acquisition. With the pocket-book open and Star Wars in the cart, it seem the Mouse is looking for more cheese in Hasbro's library of brands including Transformers, My Little Pony, GI Joe, Battleship, Nerf, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, and literally 100s of toys and games kids have grown up with for decades.

From what we’re told, these are still just discussions at this point, but serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry. The Lucasfilm acquisition has been reported as taking as few as 6 months to complete. On the other hand, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has until 2015 on his current contract, and he waited about 3 years in between the acquisitions of Marvel and Lucasfilm, so we may be without firm news on this for some time

Obviously, the large cache of Popular Culture properties would add to Disney's library to make a true Tour De Force in the entertainment industry. Its also not hard to imagine Hasbro's is in a position to want to be acquired either. With retail sales revenues flagging and the the slow uptake for The Hub, this could save the day and keep the channel afloat, or at least one can hope. Traditionally, acquisitions get rolled up into the parent company and it may be fans will have to watch their favorite Robot's shows on the Disney Channel if this goes down.

On the toys side, it might be good for fans and collectors to have the brand under a bigger umbrella with a bigger reach. Disney has deep pockets that hopefully would allow for more stable product roll outs and hopefully more modest pricing. With Hasbro struggling to appease Wall Street, they have raised prices over 50% in the last 5 years alone. Only time will tell what's going to happen. PLEASE, Share your comments on the possible event and what it would mean to you.

If at all. Disney would either make Botcon awesome or just axe it entirely and say to hell with the TCC. I don't know. Disney is an evil company of corporate money hungry douches but they are an intelligent hyper-rich evil company of corporate money hungry douches. It could go either way. May... read more

Wow, I really don't know what to think about this haha. It could go either way. A couple things come to mind right off ... 1) What does this mean for Takara, and joint projects like Masterpieces? 2) If it doesn't affect the MP line, does this mean we could lose TRU as their exclusive distr... read more

I think they're trying to get the toys for marvel and Star Wars "in house" and to have their own dedicated manufacturer.

On the bright side, since IL&M was just bought by Disney, at least they would have all the CGI intact. Though I'm sure it'd peeve off Paramount/Dreamworks

Oh good God no. There might be some promise (might) but, I fear the worst.

The new Fans Toys FT-21 Berserk features 3 modes of transformation. It stands 24.5cm / 9.8" tall in robot mode and contains diecast metal parts. Fans of the Blitzwing character will recognize this figure as an upgraded MP style homage. The figure is listed for pre-order to ship in June 2017 at a price of $144.99 USD. Get yours now at bigbadtoystore.com. Read on to see the prototype images for more details.
With MakeToys, TakaraTomy and Ocular Max all seemingly employing a slightly different philosophy in terms of aesthetics, it would seem that we are completely spoiled for choice and that everyone’s specific preference will be catered for across the many Masterpiece-style fire truck releases. Ocular Max have incorporated what seems to be a very real-world accurate vehicle mode and tried to appease both toy and toon crowds...
Iron Factory posted to Weibo today, offering up a batch of new photos of Soul Reaper. This figure is based on the Transformers Victory character Black Shadow, albeit by way of the Generations Deluxe toy rather than the original Pretender version. But if anything, this Legends-scale figure seems to be doing everything it can to upstage its larger official counterpart, but perhaps that's easier to do when approaching a common design a few years after its release? Keep reading to take a look at the pictures.
Fresh off their Weibo page is a first look at another upcoming figure from TFC Toys in their Poseidon series. The fifth not-Seacon is Deathclaw, a take on Nautilator seen as a grey prototype piece. The figure looks well realized in both modes, and even features some little extras like an "attack mode" for the robot replacing the hands with big claws. With this, the end of the Poseidon project is actually almost in sight - only one figure to get an "official" debut before it's down to just waiting for them to go up for sale. Just announced on their facebook page, is the MTCD-01 Striker Manus Reveal Cross Dimension Series Unofficial Optimus Prime figure from Maketoys. The figure appears to take a page from the Revoltech figure with ultra-articulation incorporated to offer the kind of range of motion we don't normally see. He's also going to have some nice weapons to go with, including the signature fusion cannon and what looks to be an axe-blade weapon.
