RUMOR: Disney In Talks To Buy Hasbro - Transformers More Than Meets the Mouse?
Jack - Tuesday, November 06, 2012

Gosh, if there ever was a rumor I didn't want to be true. It is this one just in via MTV Geek that Disney and Hasbro are in talks about an acquisition. With the pocket-book open and Star Wars in the cart, it seem the Mouse is looking for more cheese in Hasbro's library of brands including Transformers, My Little Pony, GI Joe, Battleship, Nerf, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, and literally 100s of toys and games kids have grown up with for decades.

From what we’re told, these are still just discussions at this point, but serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry. The Lucasfilm acquisition has been reported as taking as few as 6 months to complete. On the other hand, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has until 2015 on his current contract, and he waited about 3 years in between the acquisitions of Marvel and Lucasfilm, so we may be without firm news on this for some time

Obviously, the large cache of Popular Culture properties would add to Disney's library to make a true Tour De Force in the entertainment industry. Its also not hard to imagine Hasbro's is in a position to want to be acquired either. With retail sales revenues flagging and the the slow uptake for The Hub, this could save the day and keep the channel afloat, or at least one can hope. Traditionally, acquisitions get rolled up into the parent company and it may be fans will have to watch their favorite Robot's shows on the Disney Channel if this goes down.

On the toys side, it might be good for fans and collectors to have the brand under a bigger umbrella with a bigger reach. Disney has deep pockets that hopefully would allow for more stable product roll outs and hopefully more modest pricing. With Hasbro struggling to appease Wall Street, they have raised prices over 50% in the last 5 years alone. Only time will tell what's going to happen. PLEASE, Share your comments on the possible event and what it would mean to you.

Oh hey, maybe Optimus Prime will be in the next Kingdom Hearts game!

If at all. Disney would either make Botcon awesome or just axe it entirely and say to hell with the TCC. I don't know. Disney is an evil company of corporate money hungry douches but they are an intelligent hyper-rich evil company of corporate money hungry douches. It could go either way. May... read more

Wow, I really don't know what to think about this haha. It could go either way. A couple things come to mind right off ... 1) What does this mean for Takara, and joint projects like Masterpieces? 2) If it doesn't affect the MP line, does this mean we could lose TRU as their exclusive distr... read more

Odd years it will be Disney World, even years at Disney land. So start packing for Florida LOL Does this mean that for next years box set we will get the It may belong to Bandai, but I do not think that will stop Disney LOL Though on the bright side if it was Nintendo instead of Disney, we coul... read more

I think they're trying to get the toys for marvel and Star Wars "in house" and to have their own dedicated manufacturer.

...and ALL the BotCons will switch off between at Disney Land and World.

On the bright side, since IL&M was just bought by Disney, at least they would have all the CGI intact. Though I'm sure it'd peeve off Paramount/Dreamworks

Oh good God no. There might be some promise (might) but, I fear the worst.

More Third Party News
Following up on the reveal of Tyrantron, Mastermind Creations posted a design graphic that reveals the toy's second configuration as the gladiatorial mining robot Tyrantronus. The change is achieved with alternate chest, head, and shoulder parts, as well as involving a different arm weapon. The giant drill suggests that the figure will be able to be configured as a vehicle other than the jet mode seen already. If it can become a drill tank, it probably wouldn't be hard to make a battle tank out of either. Keep reading to see the images.
The Facebook page for MMC's Ocular Max offshoot has posted new photos showing the prototype for their Perfection Series Saltus - yet another third party Masterpiece Springer. This one is noted to offer alternate heads for cartoon or toy influence, as well as differing shoulder arrangements to match, all while boasting 40 points of articulation. The Facebook post projects availability in the second quarter of 2017, but of course no pricing is available at this stage. Click through now to see the mirrored photos!
Mastermind Creations shared out some photos of their various displayed goods via their Facebook page today. Their Masterpiece-alike offerings seemed to be a prominent player, including a hand-painted yellow version of their Trailbreaker to represent its Diaclone colors, seemingly to measure interest in it as a potential future release. Many Reformatted figures were on hand, including the Tyrantron IDW-style Megatron we saw first earlier today. There's a nice big gallery, so click through and start having a look!
FansToys certainly has no problem with ambition! Their latest reveal, FT-20, is nothing less than an Omega Supreme designed to interact with Masterpiece Transformers. The figure takes its cues largely from the cartoon, with its overly boxy form as a robot, and simplified alternate mode look. But where this really tries to sell itself is its size, and as you can see in the mirrored gallery, it suitably towers over basically everything. More alarming is the hint that FansToys might have a Devastator on the way at the same size! Keep reading to see everything!
The next stage of the warring third parties seems to be kicking off. Hot on the heels of Hasbro's genuine modern Sixshot, two of the third party companies have debuted their own efforts. DX9 has revealed Hanzo (or Hanzuo, according to at least one DX9 posting), which was on hand at TFCon this weekend. Subsequently, GCreations has shown off the CG design for their stab, which currently seems to not have progressed to the point of a code name. You can find images of both below and compare and contrast for yourself!
