SDCC 2017 - TFormers Q&A With Hasbro's Ashley Creedon And Lenny Panzica
ExVee - Thursday, July 20, 2017
Thursday afternoon following the Transformers brand panel at San Diego Comic Con, our coverage team got to spend a few minutes talking to Ashley Creedon, Senior Manager, Global Brand Marketing & Development for Transformers, and Lenny Panzica, Senior Product Designer on Transformers. The video interview covered a number of questions, including the future of the Titans return boxsets, all the way to what we can expect of the HasCon experience later this year. You can find the video of the interview below, as well as a transcription for easy reference. Click through to watch now!
TFORMERS: We've only seen two Titans Return multipacks released so far, can we expect more?
ASHLEY CREEDON: No. We only are launching the two this year. And then we included the other clones - we knew that fans would want to finish out the clone collection - so in our Walgreens exclusive that we have right, hidden over here behind Lenny, we have the other two clones.
TFORMERS: It looks like there's a Beast Wars logo on the Siege on Cybertron set, can you tell us anything about that?
ASHLEY CREEDON: Um... that was [laughs] that was something where we wanted to play in to... a couple of the characters were beasts, so we thought we'd tie back to the Beast Wars for Beast Wars fans.
TFORMERS: So, no new Beast Wars coming?
ASHLEY CREEDON: Stay tuned!
TFORMERS: This is a weird one: Sixshot's submarine mode turned out to be pretty popular, do you think a character like Shockwave or Megatron could ever have a sub mode?
LENNY PANZICA: I think that's possible, it really depends on the kind of story we're telling. It's like, whatever the mission is the character has to go on...
TFORMERS: So if there's an aquatic element to whatever's going on...
LENNY PANZICA: Maybe there's something under the ocean they have to get, which we've seen them do before. But it depends on the narrative we're trying to tell.
TFORMERS: So we've got Trypticon, Metroplex, Fort Max. There's still a couple real bigs out there that we're waiting on...
ASHLEY CREEDON: There are! Which ones?
TFORMERS: Omega Supreme, Scorponok, Mega Zarak...
ASHLEY CREEDON: If you guy tell us, if you guys tell us what you're looking for...
LENNY PANZICA: I mean, those guys are always on our minds, cause those are characters that we love as well. And we know that from a collection standpoint they kind of round everything out. How cool would it be to have a giant Scorponok, right? So... we have to plan out when we would - or if we are going to do it, but it's definitely on our minds. It just... doesn't strategically make sense to do that character.
ASHLEY CREEDON: And we definitely read your fan sites - we mine it for what characters fans are looking for. John, you know John Warden well, he's always trying to understand what does everyone want next, what do they need to complete their collections... So we're always looking for that type of information, totally welcome it.
TFORMERS: So, you guys have your own show, you're not just guests at Botcon. How did you approach your show differently from Botcon?
ASHLEY CREEDON: So, we're super excited about HasCon, excited about the Transformers experience, it's definitely going to be very big... We're going to have something for every type of fan. Whether you're a kid, and we're definitely talking about it as a family - FANmily event, we'll have awesome activities for fans and collectors as well. So we know what fans love, we've heard a lot about what they loved about Botcon, and we're trying to bring some of those experiences to HasCon to make sure that our super-hardcore fans are really going to be happy with the experience. We have plans for exclusives, really awesome exclusives that we're going to announce soon, and exclusive experiences that you can only get at HasCon for Transformers fans.
TFORMERS: And will we get a lot of the stuff we had at Botcon, like the great displays, and the panels with designers...
ASHLEY CREEDON: We have SO many panels--
[unnamed speaker]: You have to check out the website, we have a lot of our panels and--
TFORMERS: We've been tracking it, but I want to make sure that our fans hear it from the team. You know, a lot of people are like, Botcon, what's this? And it's a little confusing with all the other properties you're covering at the same show, so... you know, we want a better-than-Botcon replacement.
LENNY PANZICA: I think Transformers will definitely have its space, and we'll inform you guys as best as we can, and try to live up to and maybe even surpass Botcon

The event wasn't all that well publicized and a lot of people missed it as it was happening, but we're here to catch you up with screenshots showing the highlights of the half hour panel.
