Simon Furman Script Wrap Transformers: Regeneration One #85 - The ULTIMATE Showdown Between Optimus Prime and Megatron

By Jack on Monday, November 05, 2012

According to Simon Furman all bets are off this time. Fans of the Transformers have been marinated in the Optimus Prime Versus Megatron showdown ever since we saw them battle atop the dam in Generation 1. Most every series, comic and movie has culminated in the "Showdown" that largely goes the same way with Megatron being foiled when he's just inches away from extinguishing Prime's spark for good. Frankly (no-pun), its become the parsley on the plate made to make the story look nice with adding a lot of flavor. However, according to Furman, Transformers: Regeneration One #85 gets seriously serious this time.
So uppermost in mind when we got to continue the saga beyond it’s abrupt conclusion in issue #80 (in Regeneration One), was to put that to rights, to accelerate Optimus and Megatron into a showdown where all bets are off, the stakes and surrounding elements too mighty to brush off with an inconclusive draw (another stalemate was just not on the cards). In one corner, you’ve got Prime, who’s been head in the sand for the past 20 years, in the other Megatron, who’s been laying waste to Earth with almost the sole aim of sticking it to Prime and getting his attention. Well, now he’s got it — big time. The gloves are well and truly off. And just when you think it can’t get any more extreme (in terms of Prime’s state of mind), any worse — it does.

Thanks to Weibo member transformers we have news and an image giving us a first look at a new Optimus Prime project from Ori Toy. The shot shows what appears to be some kind of bust of the Autobot Leader. Juding from the name, it could a die-cast-like version of Prime's torso detailing and all the drool worth goodness that goes with. Check out the image till we know more.
The WIP Department Facebook page has posted an extensive gallery from Toy Soul 2014! Among the new things on the page is one heretofore unknown Transformers product from Kids Logic: an SD G1 Devastator! We'll have more info on that as it becomes available, but for now keep reading to see it- and check out WIP Department's page for a LOT of non-Transformers stuff from Toy Soul!
This is a Transformers concept by Andrew Mercer who started working on this concept back in 2011. Knowing that 2014 was the 30th anniversary year, he thought this line would be a cool way to celebrate the rich history of the brand. Figures that could reformat between different Generations in the same way they could Transform from robot to vehicle. Transformat = Reformat + Transform.
User Chobedear has posted photos of the packaging for Year of The Goat Optimus prime, the gold and colorless-clear plastic edition of G2 Laser Prime. Chobedear is also the original source for the Platinum Insecticon set, and has provided some new information. These are both available in Singapore right now, with the Insecticons running the equivalent of about US$100 and Optimus is $155. Let's hope when these eventually reach a retailer in the US, it's at a much lower price! Keep reading to see the new pictures.
Via an anonymous source, we have packaged photos of a Platinum Series three pack of the G1 Insecticons. These toys were reissued several years ago exclusively at Toys R Us - largely featuring replacement names due to trademarking issues, something this set corrects. We have no information on pricing or intended time of release, however there's a cross-sell on the box that shows the "Seeker Squadron" of Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet. Click through for the photos, and keep watch for future updates on these sets!
