Transformers: The Last Knight - Review From Radio Free Cybertron's Brian Kilby
RAC - Tuesday, June 20, 2017

Despite the premiere happening right now, there have already been advance screenings of Transformers: The Last Knight. And Radio Free Cybertron's own Brian Kilby has seen it! His spoiler-free review is positive, and most surprisingly says that most of the rough edges we've come to associate with the Transformers film franchise are not present here. Keep reading for a sample plus a link to the full review in both text and audio formats!
Let me preface everything I’m going to say with this: This is the same dumb movie you’ve already seen four times already, perfected. It’s better than all of the earlier films, in pretty much every way. In a way I’m doing a bit of a disservice by calling it dumb. Of all the Transformers movies, this is the most logically consistent, thoughtful, and endearing. Most importantly, for me, it’s the first film that isn’t offensively crude, sexist, or rife with stereotypes. I can’t fault the movie for any of the crimes of its predecessors, and I didn’t once utter a groan while watching this movie. I can genuinely say that I liked Transformers 5, and I am not embarrassed to say so. In my own headcanon, in a way this is the first Transformers movie, and the ones that came before don’t count.

Odds are good there'll be more talk about the movies tomorrow night on Radio Free Cybertron! the live stream will start about 8PM US Eastern Time on YouTube, so be sure to check it out!

More Transformers 5 The Last Knight News
Twitter user Tagoal has posted some images of the Transformers: The Last Knight Optimus Prime Clear Version that was released recently to coincide with TF5's Japanese home video debut! Sporting a lot of clear white and blue plastic, this is the Voyager mold available on shelves now (still) in the Premier Edition. It's kind of a shame that basically every version of this mold looks more appealing than the stock retail release, but even that one is a pretty nice toy in and of itself. A recent feature list on the online version of Rolling Stone sought to line up the ten worst films of 2017, Many choices seemed quite fitting, with few at least marginally surprising even just for where they scored on the list, if not their presence there to start with. But it's probably not that much of a leap that they gave the number one spot on the list to none other than Transformers: The Last Knight. While some fans might point to it as being on the better end of the series, that speaks very little for its quality in the larger arena of movies in general. Keep reading for a quick excerpt and link back to the Rolling Stone page.
From the website of artist Furio Tedeschi we have some new pieces of The Last Knight concept art from various stages of design. What made this latest batch stand out as interesting was how a number of pieces, such as some of the knight designs, showed clear traces of what would go in to the toyline, possibly marking a few of these pieces as part of the starting point for the design of things like Dragonstorm. Another treat is a few photos of those knight designs as physical set elements from the sound stages - parts of which I personally got to view up close in August of 2016! Paramount Home Media Distribution today unveiled a free augmented reality experience for iOS app users, coinciding with the release of Transformers: The Last Knight on 4K Ultra HD. Created by Viacom’s VR team Viacom NEXT using Apple ARKit technology, the app incorporates content from the latest film in the blockbuster series, Transformers: The Last Knight.
Greg "M Sipher" Sepelak reported on Twitter that he found two of the presumed-Walmart Exclusive Transformers: The Last Knight "Autobots Unite" Two-Packs on sale at Ross! For those not familiar with the chain, Ross is one of a number of discount store chains in the US - along with TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Ollie's - where Transformers items show up with a certain regularity. If you see them, a pair of Legion class figures will run you $5, and a pair of Turbo Changers will run you $12. Keep reading for the photographic proof, mirrored here for convenience.
