We just finished covering the Hasbro presentation here at Toy Fair 2008 in New York. Hasbro has divulged some information about what they have in store for the Transformers line for this year.
First, Hasbro is saying that there will be some exclusive figures this year, but cannot divulge any specifics yet. Now, let's break down the news by toy lines.
Animated
Hasbro says they're looking forward to awesome Animated figures this year.
Soundwave has a guitar that transforms into Laserbeak.
The team has shown off the Jazz figure, which is very sharp-looking like a Japanese race car.
"Transformers" and "Transformers 2"
Hasbro says they're looking forward to awesome new "Transformers" figures this year.
The Hasbro design team has been working with Paramount on "Transformers 2" designs for weeks now.
The designs are currently under review by Takara/Tomy.
Masterpiece
Hasbro likes the Masterpiece molds like the jet, but nothing is planned as of yet.
Alternators
The company is currently trying to figure out a way to get the Alternators line out there again, but haven't pinned down how or yet at this point.
Transformers Crossovers
Star Wars Transformers and Marvel Transformers line will merge into a single line called "Transformers Crossovers"
With this, Hasbro has confirmed the existence of the Marvel Transformers line, despite the fact that the figures were shown at the UK Toy Fair earlier this month.

I always thought that (at least with Barricade) that the alt mode was their strong point...

It wouldn't really improve the bots much, except for having better hands, but they could make the cars look a whole lot snazzier and realistic than they currently do. Jazz, Barricade, and BB would be a piece of cake to pull off. Ratchet and Ironhide would be harder, but far more rewarding and... read more

I wouldn't think that movie characters would be any better off in 1/24 scale... the Alternators are super-detailed for G1 characters. They've already made larger movie toys and they haven't really impressed me either.

I do like the Classics toys, but if I had to choose between them and Alternators, I would choose Alternators. There really should be some movie Alternators, at least the ones that are regular cars. Barricade and Jazz deserve better than those crummy deluxe toys they got.
