Transformers Will Stay w/ Paramount If Speilberg Leaves

If (more like when) Steven Spielberg leaves Viacom, Inc's Paramount Pictures, all of the projects he has a hand in that are currently underway at Paramount will stay with the studio, reports Bloomberg.

Mr. Spielberg and company are currently in talks with Mumbai entertainment company Reliance ADA to form a joint venture that will allow Mr. Spielberg's company DreamWorks, SKG to split off from Paramount Pictures.

A source with knowledge of the talks said a deal may be reached as early as next week and Mr. Spielberg will receive $550 million in funding and borrow an additional $400 million with no outside equity.

While the funding and equity is close to the previous reports of $1 billion, it contrasts with the news that the studio would look for another $1 billion to finance new projects.

If a deal is signed, Mr. Spielberg and partners David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg will be able to leave as early as November.

It won't matter for Transformers; the first movie's already out and the sequel doesn't need Spielberg's name anymore to sell it.

Didn't Speilberg have a fair bit of subtle influence over the movie, though? I recall reading news that he hung around the movie set a lot because he was an executive producer.

i don't understand Mr.Speilberg is the one that called Mr.Bay to make the trasformers movie, so why does mr.speilberg want to leave paramount?

Because Transformers is not the only movie Spielberg and Dreamworks are involved in with Paramount. :igrot

No, it's how stupid do you need to be to sell your company to a bigger conglomerate, then get pissed about how you lose control of said company to said conglomerate to the point that you leave all you worked for to start another company yourself?

Are you kidding? :tflaugh Yeah, what a terrible businessman Spielberg is.
