Vintage Geek-Off - Cancelled G2 Seekers Sandstorm and Black Death Starscream Surface Online

By Peter Van on Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Belated Merry Christmas and on-time Chinese New Year present may have arrived for many Generation 2 Transformers fans as auctions for what may be legitimate Sandstorm and "Black Death" Starscream seeker figures have surfaced at Chinese auction site TaoBao.

The auctions claim that these are legitimate Hasbro figures and have images of the Hasbro copyright located on the figure.

In the early 1990s, Hasbro originally planned to release these figures, but they were ultimately cancelled.

The auctions were originally reported by Monzo at AllSpark.

According to TFWiki, fans' attention was piqued when artwork of Sandstorm surfaced from the collection of an ex-Hasbro employee, who was also responsible for showing off a hand-painted prototype of the other mentioned figure, "Black Death" Starscream.

An auction from another seller has also surfaced, claiming it to be a legitimate version, but unlike the aforementioned auctions, there is not proof of the authenticity.

Take a look at the images in the gallery and let us know what you think!

Personally, these two seem like test shots mock ups by hasbro done decades ago. If they were finished products they'd have more color apps applied & factory stickers allpied to the toys. FWIW,Takara released a reissue of starscream in black colors called starscream.

I'd rather see 3rd parties bring back Cyberjets.

The black death figure might have been G2 Skywarp, or a new character too. I wonder if third party toy makers would make them.

Sandstorm looks awesome! I'd be alot more interested in him as an "original" character than ANOTHER Starscream repaint, even if it is an old one....

Following yesterday's reveal of Platinum Edition Trypticon, the latest in a string of G1 reissues populating the line this year, we have new images showing the back panel of the box, and most importantly it confirms in a call out that Trypticon still has its motorized walking action. Trypticon's reissue remains just as functional as the original and from yesterday's images, it looks like it calls for a AA and 2 C size batteries, indicating no update to the electronics. We also have a shot of the brief bio, so click through and have a look!
The Cybertron Philippines group has apparently uncovered images of the packaging for the long-rumored G1 Trypticon reissue coming to the Platinum Series, the current home for released G1 figures. Prior information has this set expected to carry a price around $150, which may seem appealing to many looking for a complete, working-condition copy of the toy. Keep reading to check out the pictures. Thanks to Eric John A. Cruz for sharing these outside the closed CybPH community!
Site sponsors TFSource and Robot Kingdom have put up preorder pages for Platinum Edition Trypticon! Robot Kingdom lists the price as $159.90 US and a ship date of June 23rd, while TFSource lists the figure at $199.99 and a ship date of July. Since Robot Kingdom tends to get things a week or so early and sport prices that are slightly lower before shipping and handling charges, this all seems consistent. Given the ship date, don't be surprised if you see these at BotCon. Read on for preorder links!
