Wizards of the Coast Transformers Collectible Game?

By News_Staff on Friday, October 06, 2006 @ 01:41:09 PM

Many thinks to Joeseph for sending us a heads up about a poll that the Wizards of the Coast Web site is running asking people "How interested would you be in purchasing a Transformers collectible game made by Wizards of the Coast?" You know the answer is "5 (extremely)." This does not confirm a game is coming, but lots of votes will help make it happen. Buzz on over to their web site and scroll all the way down to the Bonus poll, there is more than one, at the bottom of the page and cast your vote today at Wizards.com.

Ha ha! And posting on a Transformers fan forum isn't nerdy? :)

Let's face it, if you're reading this right now, you're nerdy... as we all are to varying degrees. Embrace it!!! :)

However, I do know what you mean. I'm not crazy about these collectable card games. I think they're the lowest form of commercial materialism and unimaginative number-crunching anal retentiveness... my least favourite elements of RPG culture.

But whatever... a Transformers CCG? Why the hell not? :)

Being "nerdy" ain't a thing to worry about. Having a hobby and having fun with the hobby is nothing to be ashamed of. Wanting to have a hobby and worrying about what other people think of you is more nerdy to me than to say screw all those people and just do what you enjoy.

But this card game is no different than the G.I.Joe one that was made. The G.I.Joe card game only made it to series 2. It was canceled just as series 2 was coming out. There's not enough call for it with all the other card games out there. Pretty much the people into these card games already have picked the ones they like and have invested too much time and money to jump in another one. The people that do buy it are generally the fans of the property being used and they usually are not buying it for the card game.

It's called Attactix and it's out. I never got into card games that didn't involve an ace of spades, so I'll pass on this. For those who think those kind of games are nerdy, let's see...

Toy collectors are considered nerds

Blog posters are considered nerds

Are we? It's a matter of if you want to believe the stereotype. For real, ditch the petty namecalling, it's.... nerdy.

I would really like a TF ccg. I like attacktix, but it's not a very portable game and neither is heroclix (which I play as well).

Btw, does anyone else recall that aborted ccg that was being made for Armada years ago? There were pics of it and everything.

WOTC doesn't develop attactix. This is what I'm talking about by a miniatures game:

I'd love to see WOTC make a Transformers version of a collectible miniatures game of this type.

I don't think a card game is a good idea...CCG's are starting to fade in the market (as evidenced by the drop in sales of Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon cards). The new trend are the Clix games. I agree that Attactix is a joke. However, something along the lines of Battletech or HeroClix would be quite welcome- especially if the quality is as good as the Battletech mechs. The problem lies in the diversity of sizes...from Bumblebee to Prowl to Prime to Grimlock to Jetfire to Defensor to Omega Supreme to Fortress Maximus: it present a real problem. Another question: would they transform? How could the rules quantify transformations, especially for mechs like Sixshot?

Magic the Gathering created a freaking monster...this will probably get a million incarnations of like the Star Wars one.

Actually if you verify your numbers you'd see that the OVERALL CCG/CTG is holding to a fairly steady level. People only percieve it to be fading because All you see is the hype n crap for the Kiddy crap. Sure YGO's sales are declining. It wasn't a long term viable game. Pukemon goes in cycles, dying out completly in areas then resurging with major spikes. Hell Pukemon has been Discontinued like 3 times to date.
Yet the CCG market see's tons of new additions each year, most don't make it due to bad implimentation & zero manufacturer support.
But guess what, just Alone from what I've seen. Most players who left yugioh.. then turned to the Grandfather & creator of the whole market, Magic TG. Who's sales this last year hit 10 year peaks. Why?. Because Wizards innovates constantly While ensuring Quality, & compatibility. Plus it helps that they support thier products thru tournaments & promotions.
Out Side of Gamblers (ie poker players) MTG is one of the few ways one can make a living (and many have & do) playing With pieces of cardboard.

The new trend are the Clix games.

*ahem* I wouldn't call it new anymore, not at 4 years old now. & lots at the time in 2k2 thought it Would replace things like Warhammer & the ccg world.. but nope, just bacame another market
though technically "clix" is no means new, as a CFG (Collectable Figure Game). CFG's have been Around Since the late 80's with the first Mechwarrior figures followed by the much more played Warhammer. "clix" is just the most recent innovation that removed the need to know what each figures stats are by having them *and any modifyers* as part of thier base.
Now yes .. I would gladly collect and/or play either, As Long as the Quality is high enough.
the toys are one thing.. you pay once.. but C
