Titans Return Trypticon Prototypes - Check Out The Models That Led To The New Titan

The "TF Factory" Weibo account has posted some new material today, like the Trypticon box image we showed you earlier. But there's something even better to share now: The prototype models for Titan Class Trypticon. These have been displayed in a very limited fashion at events like Toy Fair, though we're not sure if photos of them have gotten out before now. The nature of both of these has been described previously, which is good, since one of them especially might be a bit of a head-scratcher otherwise. Keep reading to see them and learn more!

In this photo we can see the two early prototype models for Trypticon. Though neither is really a prototype in the sense that we as Transformers fans tend to use the word. On the right side of the image is the earliest revealed design state for Trypticon. This is a carved wood model whose only stated purpose was to help visualize aspects of the target volume and basic silhouette desired. It doesn't change shape, and is not meant to reflect any sort of details. It's among the roughest, most basic 3D representations possible. This model (or one like it) was shown as far back as Toy Fair 2016, not but a few months after the poll that chose Trypticon as the next Titan ended.

But on the left is something much more interesting, which we only learned about relatively recently. This is a Titan Class Fortress Maximus which has been taken apart to its basic pieces and reassembled in the general shape of a dinosaur. Why would this ever be a phase of designing Trypticon? Because this exercise was to prove whether they could get a dinosaur robot out of the same parts count that had gone in to the existing Titan Class figures. In theory, if this test had failed, Trypticon may have had to be revised - likely scaled down and simplified to some extent until the parts and material required came back within an acceptable range. It's probably safe to guess that this particular step is not commonplace, making this model even more "one of a kind" than most average prototypes, and we're really glad to have the chance to see it, even if it's just a kind of fuzzy photo.
