Reuters reports that Hasbro has followed through on their acquisition of the master toy license for Power Rangers and exercised their right to buy the brand from Saban outright. The most popular franchise of the early 1990s went for a relative steal at roughly $520 million dollars - doubly so when we find that other Saban brands are included in that deal, including `80s plush brand Popples. But what else might this deal have done? We'll speculate wildly after the jump.
The big question - at least, the biggest question you can find in this for a Transformers fansite - is whether Hasbro recovered Saban's interest in the 2001 series Transformers: Robots In Disguise, the US adaptation of Japan's Transformers: Car Robots. It's been long unavailable through any official channel in the United States, which is commonly thought to be a function of the rights held by Saban. If so, we'll probably find out soon - given that Shout! Factory is the licensor for both Power Rangers and Transformers, an RID release should be a natural thing. Again, hopefully.
