SEPTEMBER 1st - Cyberverse Premiere Date Revealed For Cartoon Network Plus Trailer & Voice Cast

We'll soon be able to see Transformers: Cyberverse and judge for ourselves. Entertainment Weekly has posted a release date of September 1st for the series premiere, along with a new trailer and a fascinatingly fresh voice cast list. Episodes will be added to the Cartoon Network app starting this Monday, with new episodes promised for Fridays after that. Keep reading for the trailer and a link to the full article!

The show features Jeremy Levy as the voice of Bumblebee, and Jake Tillman as Optimus Prime. Ryan Andes voices the dinobot Grimlock, while Sophia Isabella is Windblade, who is helping Bumblebee unlock his damaged memory bank.

On the side of the bad guys, Marc Thopson voices megalomaniacal Megatron, Billy Bob Thompson is the duplicitous jet Starscream, Andes pulls double-duty as cyclopian Shockwave, and Deanna McGovern is Shadowstriker.

These are by and large new names to us. Tillman is clearly doing a Peter Cullen impression in the trailer, as well. After the news that Rescue Bots Academy was going to resort to non-union voice actors - presumably as a cost-saving measure - we have to wonder if Cyberverse is doing the same. Why would a new series be immune if the longest-running, most successful Transformers animated series wasn't, after all?

The headline on EW calls out Cyberverse as being "1980s-inspired" ...but what in Transformers, at least that we see at market today, isn't? It definitely smacks of a very deliberate attempt to refocus on what people liked about Transformers before the live-action movie series. But, it's likely that more than a few people of the age to be buying their kids toys right now grew up with Beast Wars or the Unicron Trilogy. G1 is always going to be seen as the safe bet, but time will tell if it's the right bet during this transitional phase of Transformers as a brand.
