On Facebook, TFND has shared a few pictures of a most peculiar thing: A G1 Optimus Prime in new vintage style packaging very much like Hot Rod and company that have been filling shelf space at Walmarts this year. The catch? It's only the truck cab and its essential parts, such as the fists and rifle. Devastator came in at the $70 range, and it's unclear how much a Prime with full trailer and parts loadout might have to run to be profitable, but it's likely more than anyone is entirely comfortable with. Even while we would assume this would be at minimum in the $30 range, it's not a bad idea to get the "important" part of a G1 Optimus Prime out on shelves in your reissue lineup.
So far we have no details to go on other than these photos, so any notions of price or release timeframe will be purely conjecture for a while. This might prove disappointing though for people hoping to see Ultra Magnus or even Powermaster Optimus Prime get another run at US retail, unless Hasbro decides to use one of them as a single big ticket reissue item for the 2019 product year. Maybe we'll see at Toy Fair in just about two months from now.
