Transformers fans in Japan got a whole lot more for their Generation 1 line than we saw in America. At the conclusion of the Headmasters, Takara felt it was a good time to do something different and took the liberty to produce the Super-God Masterforce series that would introduce a lot of new characters with a story all their own.
Today's Daily Prime shot takes a look at the Japanese side of things and the Takara C-309 Super Ginrai figure from the 1988 Super-God Masterforce series. Most only know the reissued C-310 God Ginrai set (top left) that was a special gift set that packaged both the C-307 Super Ginrai and the C-309 God Bomber (bottom right) together. Utilizing the same mold as Powermaster Optimus Prime in America, Takara added die-cast parts and real blue-tinted windows in the place of stickers. We never formally saw the character or toy as a Hasbro production, but it was released in the exclusive Toys R Us Commemorative Series II as Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armor in 2002.
I have that PMOP reissue, and it's probably my favorite G1 toy in my collection!
