There was no Transformers Generation 2 cartoon but there were toys and while most of them were cheaper remakes of their G1 versions in wild colors. We did get a handful of interesting new figures lines including Auto Rollers, Cyberjets, Go-Bots, Laser Cycles, Laser Rods, Rotor Force, Sparkabots, Heroes and more!
Today's Optimus Prime shot takes a look at two G2 characters who share the same mold. Oddly enough, Autobot Hero Optimus Prime, also called "Combat Optimus Prime" (see video), was the first new Prime mold in Generation 2. Unlike Prime models seen before as a unified vehicle with no separate cab. The mobile missile launching figure featured a unique air-pump system to fire the massive rockets. The top-heavy figure that barely stands on its own, appears to have been designed to fall over easily when struck by Hero Megatron's blast. Like many of the Generation 2 toys, the figure was released in Europe under a different character name as "Sureshot" (right).
