In the spirit of Thanksgiving gluttony, the Daily Prime takes a look at a turkey of a toy in the 2004 Transformers Energon Optimus Prime figure. The core robot of the super class combiner set was less than well-received due to the extra girth in the design. Dubbed "Fatimus Prime" by fans (see Makotron cartoon), the initial run of figures released featured a just as controversial mouth that was literally carved out of the traditional faceplate. Perhaps the addition of the piehole explains the overweight Autobot Leader, which was later removed as a variant in subsequent Hasbro releases. However, this is all forgiven as I really like the combined Super mode (right) shown here without the mouth variant and the trailer (left) made to hold the Prime Force vehicle limbs.

I ended up with the open mouthplate version, and it still bothers me to this day. Energon is already my least favorite design for UT Optimus, but the weird mouth makes it even worse.
