The Smash Changers and other quick changing figures of recent years began long ago in Japan. Today's Daily Prime looks at the 2001 Takara Transformers Choro-Q Robo Q-02 Convoy Metallic Version figure. Larger than the Q-TF figures, the 3.5 inch basic toy doesn't auto-transform, but easily breaks apart, and folds up on the back in to make the SD styled robot Convoy. These were made in TV (cartoon) and Metallic (toy) version colors for Convoy, Megatron, and Rodimus.
