Daily Prime - It Came from G2. Who in the Hell is Toxitron?

Frankly, this slimy monstrosity has been seeping into the Transformers for many years. The Walmart Collector Con 2023 Toxitron Collection Leader Class Toxitron is not his first incarnation as an action figure, or a character. If you didn't notice, Troma's The Toxic Avenger (1984) has been reformatted into a transforming chemical robot amalgamation that looks like Optimus Prime, but it ends there. Much like the Toxic Avenger, the whole concept is wonderfully cheesy in all the right ways, as per TFwiki:

Long ago, the Decepticons attempted to turn a helpless test subject into the ultimate warrior. What they got, however, was Toxitron, a monstrous abomination of science who wears the face of the heroic Optimus Prime. A twisted, mangled mockery of the Autobot leader, Toxitron would be more than a match for even the strongest Autobot... and that's without factoring in the noxious cocktail of corrosive slime that oozes from every seam in his armor. A walking vat of toxic sludge, this unusual mutation grants him tremendous strength, immense durability, the ability to heal away even the most grievous damage—and the power to fatally melt any Autobot who strays too close. The indiscriminate danger he poses to allies and enemies alike means that even the Decepticons are wary of authorizing his deployment on the battlefield, where he becomes a roaring, bellowing tornado of indiscriminate chemical destruction.

The first appearance of Toxitron was revealed at BotCon in 2005, and publically shown (below) in 2007. The cancelled Universe 2003 release was to be a redeco based on the G2 Laser Optimus Prime / RID Scourge mold.

The next iteration actually came to fruition in the 2011 BotCon Timelines Toxitron. This figure, inspired by the Universe concept figure, was a redeco of the Transformers Animated Voyager Optimus Prime mold with his own Animated Bio:

Toxitron was the first attempt [here me come to save the day!] by Doctor Scalpel and Oil Slick to protoform a warrior in an Autobot shell. The failed experiment produced a bizarre duplicate of Optimus Prime with immense strength, corrosive toxic sludge cannons, a hopelessly stunted intellect, and a penchant for driving backwards in vehicle mode. Fortunately for the Decepticons, the data from this mishap lead to the greater success with Projects Stunticon and Nemesis Prime.

This was accompanied by an appearance in the Transformers Animated comic series. This continued with more Toxitron comic appearances. Most notable was the 2016 The Toxic Transformer comic, with its awesome parody of The Toxic Avenger movie poster (top). Which, spawned the next figure release in the 2017 TFSS 5.0 Wrecker Toxitron made from the Combiner Wars Motormaster mold with a new head sculpt.

He's got his own Bio as well:

Forgotten. Abandoned. Left to rot in purgatory. This will not be the legacy of TOXITRON. A brute found by SHOCKWAVE on the edge of the Sea of Rust foraging for scraps of Energon, TOXITRON was promised a better life, modifications, enhancements and surely a reputation that would last for eons. In a single word: Perfection.

However, perfection failed to live up to its promises and “failure” became the word attributed to TOXITRON's intended upgrades. Left without any of the ‘gifts’ SHOCKWAVE had predicted, TOXITRON was a living weapon. A being who constantly discharged lethal toxins and poisoned anyone around him. When not on missions, TOXITRON had to be kept in a state of Cognizant Stasis to protect his fellow comrades.

Eventually other bots came to process special abilities from SHOCKWAVE’s modifications. More and more time passed between missions until finally TOXITRON was forgotten about altogether. Becoming more and more angered by his abandonment, he vowed to take revenge on those SHOCKWAVE found to be more ‘Perfect’.

The Toxitron action figure utilizes a never-before-released head sculpt, which captures the visage of an evil version of the heroic Optimus Prime! He also comes with a Distortion Rifle and Agonizer Sword, both of which can be equipped in either mode during his missions to infect the other Transformers action figures on your shelves!

Today, Legacy Evolution brings us full circle with the most faithful release of the original Universe 2003 concept yet. The redeco of the Legacy Laser Prime / Scourge figures fulfill their G2 destiny with the realization of the Toxitron Collection Leader figure.
