Titan Nemesis Official Behind The Scenes from Transformers Legacy Evolution

Here she comes, its Titan Nemesis in all here purple glory! Hasbro's product designer Sam Smith pulls the covers off the Decepticon Spaceship with the details on how this massive figure came to be. Working with Takara, they have created the first ever female Titan figure that you can read more about below with concept videos and images that follow.

Transformers Legacy Evolution - Titan Nemesis

I am thrilled to finally share and talk about our Evolution Titan figure for the year. Making her character debut, the Nemesis! This was a dream project to get the opportunity to work, and it was a massive undertaking from the start. I am so thankful for the titan sized team that contributed to bringing this character to life, and we hope that you the fans enjoy her as much as we do.

The following is a glimpse into the development process, in partnering with the incredible Yuki Hisashi at Takara Tomy, and collaborating with a very familiar transformers artist, @santalux75 to spark a transformation cog of vehicle that has been lurking within entertainment since the beginning. 39 years later, the Nemesis finally awakens. Thanks to @studio.dtw for providing such a massive photoshoot for this one.

Check out the corresponding Robot and Vehicle companion posts that follow for more details about each mode.

Transformers Legacy Evolution - Titan Nemesis - Vehicle Mode

Above all else, we needed to deliver and epic uncompromised depiction of the Nemesis ship, that would compliment 39 years of entertainment. This presented a number of challenges due to the untraditional shape, and the fact that the ship only seemed to be able to land by crash landing into a planets surface.

Standing the vehicle on its engines was a given, but to expand the ease of display-ability, we added a folding lower wing that would enable to ship to sit on its hull and gain access to the rear loading ramp. As for the engines themselves, there were a lot of directions we could move in for how we would execute them, but we landed on a quad engine array inspired by the ship used in Kingdom.

The vehicle body is equipped with multiple turrets and that be articulated along with two retractable bridges which house the landing platforms for various micro seekers and coneheads to show off the enormous scale of the ship.

Yuki Hisashi worked so tirelessly to ensure that we delivered a true to form representation of the Nemesis Ship when fully transformed, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The entire hull is sculpted with such fine detail, that every cm of surface area leaves something to be appreciated.

The hull is equipped with numerous 3mm post that hide through out the design, but provide fantastic support of our existing blast effect system to be utilized as a striking attack, or as maneuverable bow thrusters along the side and bottom.

Did we mention that this thing is massive? Check out the side to side comparisons with the Ark, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Transformers Legacy Evolution - Titan Nemesis - Robot Mode

Designing a bot form that was just as menacing as its alt mode which had been a part of transformers history since the beginning, and knowing that this character needed to hold her own against the Titan Ark, this character had some big shoes to fill. We imagined an epic Bot VS Bot battle of the “last” Titans, and we wanted to debut the Nemesis’s Robot form as something entirely new.

I had the pleasure of working with @santalux75 to flush our some silhouette for the robot form that would find a balance against the existing Ark. We didn’t want heroic proportions, we wanted something downright evil. Something that would accentuate the visual aesthetics of her alt mode, and would scream DECEPTICON!

Using the influence of the Ark face being inspired by the autobot insignia, it only made sense that we would replicate this with the Nemesis. We did a number of explorations of the head, that would incorporate elements of the icon while providing a bit more depth and layers as if her head / helmet had inspired the logo, and avoid looking too much like Tarn. I love where we ended up, we even incorporated some subtle elements of the coronation crown to the helm and one of my favorite features being the modular battle mask that opens up to reveal the face.

Something that the Titan Ark was always lacking was weaponry, so we ensured that the Nemesis would be equipped with more than her razor claws. She literally shreds her armor to utilize it for melee and firepower. Her shin plates are able to separate and reveal blaster cannons that can be secured in her hands and to her forearms, and the upper shoulder canards can be separated and deployed as hatchets for up close attack.

The deco on this figure was a treat, it became a nightmare to flush out the desired purple in production, but at the final stages our engineering team pulled it off, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.

What are your thoughts on the Titan Nemesis’s robot mode? And how do you think she fits into transformers lore? Should she be a part of entertainment? Would you want to see these Titans battle?

I'm only whelmed by this.

Seeing as to how the legs and arms transform and how few moving parts there actually are and a few other factors, this should have been a bit better. Or rather, at least better proportioned. She's fine and all and I like the spindley look of her but I just wish that at least the thighs were longer. The short torso is fine as are the insanely long arms even if the shoulders should be better. It's just I really hate short thighs on Transformers figures. I also wish the guns did a little more to help them look like guns.

It's just that compared to Cybertron Metroplex especially and even the Ark and Mainframe, the Nemesis is a little lackluster overall.

So the shoulders, the short thighs and the guns aren't doing it for me with this figure but otherwise it's pretty cool. Oh yeah, the tiny axes are laughable as well.

Looking back at the design sketches, the shorter thighs might have worked better had she had those digitigrade or reverse legs. But ultimately, I like the ones where parts of the alt mode itself became the thighs.

Or it could've just looked more like the official character designs. The long and tall shoulder pylons going off to the sides of the shoulders look really good. As do the better proportioned legs with the bulkier thighs and the legs in general that don't stand straight. That's a good design, shame it didn't quite translate into plastic all too well though.

Ah, yes. "Evo-Fusion."

This is pretty sweet!  She looks great and I like the idea of the bottom "fin" to fold apart for landing (or crashing into a Peruvian mountain range).  ?

I also find it funny that both Siege Seeker Skywarp and Earthrise Thrust are teased on the front of the boxart.  ?
