Wait, what? The mega-madness over Origin Miner Megatron is not done yet. First the headless testshots, then the assumed complete figure with head that is probably a custom, and now this! Two more images showing robot mode with a pickaxe weapon, and we get a look at the tank mode that has a big drill-bit that connects with the pickaxe, in place of the barrel / arm-cannon. Now that we see it, this definitely looks more like the comic version shown below. Check out the robot and tank shots thanks to Leak-O The Leaker.
Amazon still hasn't properly adjusted their prices. I wonder if they ever will. In any event I spotted the Orion Pax and Shockwave set in stock yesterday on Pulse so I ordered it there and cancelled my Amazon order just in case. This way I should definitely have both sets for the lower price.
I have my three deluxe Orion Pax figures sitting here waiting for this one. However judging by the Cybertron Defense Hot Shot I also have next to them, this Pax is going to look a bit out of place next to the rest of them. Thrilling 30 Pax is still the best figure overall though. "Titans Return" Pax is at least bigger than the rest and is a more fun mold overall than the "SS86" mold which is the most accurate to G1 out of the two due to the retooled parts.
It's such a shame that PotP Pax is so much bigger and turns into Optimus Prime's cab otherwise it would be the most accurate G1 Pax we've gotten even if it's a little too tall for the role as it's technically a voyager.
I also have them next to WFC and FoC Optimus. I still think WFC deluxe Optimus is a better mold than the new SSG voyager. Now I remember why I never had any balancing issues with the deluxe though. You can shift the feet back quite a bit to help balance him. It's actually the new voyager that has balancing issues as you can't do the same with him and he has no heel spurs and rounded heels to boot...pun intended. FoC Optimus is a fun little mold. I forgot just how fun actually. Sometimes simple is good too. Shame he's too small and never got an oversized KO.
As well as Classics deluxe Optimus with the rest. Wow that's a bad mold. I wonder what the rumored deluxe Optimus will be like. Obviously better than the Classics version in any event. And luckily without any action features. It's just so odd that they're doing another deluxe G1 Optimus for the "CHUG" line. WFC was a deluxe due to no voyagers at the time. FoC was a deluxe due to...well I don't actually know why. There were voyagers released then so why a deluxe?
All of these deluxe Primes and Orions make me want to do some customs. I seen some pretty good ones using Siege Ironhide/Crosshairs and SSBB Ironhide. Maybe if I feel up to it I'll do one or both.
Been thinking about Senator Shockwave and how some people don't like that it's using the Siege Tetrajet for whatever reason. I'm looking at Jhiaxus right now and I think this mold could've worked as well. The only thing is that it would require the arm wings to partsform like the ones on CW Cyclonus.
The translucent plastic sprue, the red plastic sprue and the green plastic sprue would all need to be reworked. They could've replaced the larger wings with thrusters that also have pylons that come up and over his back like they do in the comics instead of making the chest have two of the seeker pylons on the sides of the head instead of the one. It could've worked fairly well with about the same amount of parts changed as there were on the Siege Tetrajet mold. It also would've given Senator Shockwave opening hands so he can better emote in robot mode like Senator Ratbat can with his one molded open hand.
Ultimately it was probably a lot cheaper to work on the Siege Tetrajet since it's be used so many times already than it would've been to rework the Jhiaxus mold which has only been used once so far. I like the Tetrajet mold and have EVERY version so far and don't mind more but even I would've liked it more had they used Jhiaxus instead. Oh well. It was just a thought though.

The thing is, with Rise of Tyranny you're getting two voyagers for $70 on Pulse (reasonable) and with Humble Origins you're getting a deluxe and a voyager for $55 on Pulse (also reasonable). But Amazon got the prices swapped, so you're getting two voyagers for $55 on Amazon (an amazing deal) and a deluxe and a voyager for $70 on Amazon (a ripoff).
TL;DR buy Megs & Ratbat from Amazon and Shockwave & Orion from Pulse.
Indeed. However Amazon has preorder price guarantees. So they'll refund the difference for the overpriced set when they swap it to the correct amount. And it should also mean that they'll honor the lower price for the other set too. So there shouldn't be a need to wait for Pulse to allow more preorders.

Okay so I was right about how the drill was formed for vehicle mode. I was just hoping that the pickaxe head wouldn't just be put to the side like that though. Although I don't exactly know what I was expecting otherwise. Even still, this drill tank won't be all THAT effective.
Senator Ratbat is a nice surprise. Shame the wings still can't articulate upwards like the character model. It's also pretty funny that the little thrusters are on wrong on some of the actual figure shots.
That's funny. BaCon you must be messing with me at this point lol.
I post that, go get dinner, get back on the computer and boom, you post something seemingly confirming exactly what I was going on about.
The colors look better and more uniform. The hips are assembled correctly. The new accessories look like injection molded plastic and not 3D printed parts. The paint look professional on the new parts. The pickaxe has tabs to hold the arms together in drill tank mode. It looks good. Or as good as can be expected from the Siege Megatron mold.
The new parts look like they can be assembled in a different way for tank mode though. The head of the pickaxe should come off from what I'm seeing and that should allow the full drill to attach to the front pickaxe handle or something maybe. I don't know. I just think that the parts don't look like they're being utilized properly for tank mode. That's an awfully long peg on the back of that one part otherwise and looks like it should be able to be inserted fully into the pickaxe handle once the head is removed. Maybe the turret is supposed to be flipped around the other way too to allow for the drill to pivot up and down.
Watch you post more pics while I was typing all this out.
Something has been bothering me about this set of pictures for "Miner" Megatron and I finally figured it out. That's NOT a complete copy. That's the headless and weaponless copy from before but with upgrade parts. The triangular back cannon is from one kit that I can't seem to find anymore. As is the sword filler piece so that the sword pegs into the arm as shown. The drill is an unpainted copy of the drill you can get on Ebay. The head is a version of the miner head you can get on Ebay as well just without the caution stripes on the "eyebrows".
So yeah, this isn't what we should expect for this figure.
Yeah the head was designed to look like miner Megatron but that head is an EXACT match for the upgrade head that's being sold. Detail for detail it's exact other than the caution stripes.
The triangular back cannon clearly does not have factor paintwork.
Again, the sword once removed from the tank barrel would need a separate filler piece in order to plug into the arm as seen here. One that was being sold online at one point along with the triangular back cannon.
The drill again is an exact match for the drill being sold online. It's just not painted the same.
You can even see other pieces from the kits on one of the other Megatron figures. The leg missile pods, the shoulder missile pods, the forearm flaps and the miner crown on the head. So they took extra parts and just slapped them on the headless figure to "complete" it.
While they did design new parts for this, they could've gone that one step further and gave a swivel or something to the backpack to point those tank treads the other way around to match better. I mean, it's not like they haven't more than made their money back on this base mold by now. I think it's been used more than either Seeker mold lol.
