Wheeljack First Look at Autobot Multipack Figure from Transformers Generations Selects Set

Little by little the figures from the Transformers Generations Selects Autobot Multipack are leaking out on the SNS. The latest addition lands within the in-hand review of ROTB Wheeljack from PrimeVsPrime. He sneaks in a quick look at what is almost surely the Multipack figure, judging by the painted windows on the Earthrise mold (right).

That is three down, following Hound and Trailbreaker. Just Sunstreaker and Jazz are left before we see them all. Though we may get the official reveal on this week's Transformers Fanstream.

I'd like to put something into perspective about this set which is further strengthened by the recent leaks.

First: This is TARGET's fault this happened, not Hasbro's. Why? Because they're the ones who cancelled the single release to begin with. Just like Walmart cancelled  "pink" Hot Rod in the Velocitron line.

Second: If Hasbro didn't do some sort of multipack for this, Hound wouldn't have been able to come out at all until possibly late 2025. How do I know this? The recent leaks that show that Crasher, Cosmos, Galaxy Shuttle and possibly Shadowstrip and the aforementioned Hot Rod (and hopefully Sideswipe, Mirage, Jazz and Dead End from Toxitron as well) as all being reissued sometime in 2025. It would've taken another year and a half to two years for Hasbro to try and course correct since that's about how far they plan in advance.

If Hasbro not done this five pack then the earliest we would've been able to get Hound was 2025. I don't think the crybabies would've been able to wait that long. There's already people crying about having to wait that long for SS Hatchet as it is. That's the quickest they could've course corrected for the main lines. That is however what Generations Selects is for but I would imagine it couldn't have happened any earlier than this due to the licensing issues or whatever's going on that prevents Hasbro from using and/or reissuing new toolings and decos from store exclusives sooner. So there's a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on with this set. Or rather, Hound in particular.

However and as others have pointed out over the internet, this didn't need to be a five pack. In all honesty, five packs are a bit much. Even four packs like the Buzzworthy ones were a bit much. Three packs should be where most multipacks should top out at provided there's no actually reason for four or five to be in a set like if they're a team or combiner or something. This should've been two-three packs by adding in Sideswipe as he also has translucent plastic. Then go from there with more. Bumblebee, Prowl, Bluestreak, Red Alert, Smokescreen, Hoist and so on can join these five, Sideswipe and Buzzworthy Cliffjumper in the blue painted window crew.

I'm not saying we should suck the dick of the great and powerful Hasbro for this or anything as it could've and should've been done better, I'm just saying that it's a lose/lose situation for them and that the vast majority of the hate should be directed at Target...and ultimately the fans for not having bought the previous Buzzworthy sets. However whoever designed some of them should get a lot of the blame too as some of them where badly timed, even if I do own all of them and wanted to own them. Terrorsaur did need to be reissued, Dinobot not so much even in toy colors for both. Tow-Line was a horrible mold reuse and the poor sales showed it. Origins Jazz was great. Bumblebee, maybe not quite as much. The four packs were great as well. But then that was counterbalanced by the horrible Cyberverse 1:1 reissues that had their Cyberverse counterparts also clogging shelves at the same time but hey, at least there's different packaging.

It's just that there were big hits and big misses and barely anything in the middle. Had Hound and Hatchet gone through as planned, I would expect them to have sold poorly honestly. The only reason why people seem to be clamoring for them now is that they're two years late at this point and one is still another two years away. Were there people excited for them? Sure. However there seemed to be more who couldn't care less. And I'm sure that would've been reflected in the sales. So Target was right for cancelling them even if their shitty stocking and listing practices caused most of the wild sales discrepancies of the Buzzworthy Bumblebee line as a whole.

But yeah, I see a lot of GoBots here lol.

multipack like a five pack? 2pk/3pk sure but that's ridiculous cash grab nonsense and it being a Target exclusive with hound and Trailbreaker it's gonna be hard to come by. Thanks for nothing hasbro.

There's apparently huge debates going on right now elsewhere for translucent plastic windows vs painted windows.

Seeing the end result of this figure with ALL the windows painted and looking nice and uniform, I will go painted every time. This NEVER would've happened while keeping the front windshield translucent. That would've been the only parts done like that with the rest of the windows either painted in a different shade or unpainted like the original release as shown. You also can't see the back of the head anymore either. Not to mention this being sturdier over a longer period of time. As well as the better color match but that really only matters for some color paints more than others but it is still noticeable.

GoBots Universe Guardian Scratch here is looking like a real win right now. Shame that he seems to have Trailbreaker's head for some reason. I wonder why that is.

But look at that alt mode though. ONE shade of grey instead of THREE shades of "black" and/or gunmetal. Simply beautiful.

Okay so no translucent plastic on that Trailbreaker. So hopefully the rest won't have it either.

Otherwise with him being grey, he'll be my update to GoBots Scratch. Just need someone to make a new head for him. But most likely nobody will. So I'll probably just end up getting Renderform's head in grey when he makes it.

At the very least some of these or the ones they're replacing can be gobots. Jeeper Creeper for Hound, Pocket for one of the Sunstreaker and Scratch for Trailbreaker. Then there's Jazz and Wheeljack. I'll figure something out other than trying to flood the market with worthless figures like everyone else is going to try to do. Nobody wants them, don't bother except for Sunstreaker and Trailbreaker if you're not going to use them as other characters like I'm going to.

But seriously though, Jazz was just put back on shelves at Walmart for black Friday. He'll probably still be available by the time this set comes out. Nobody is going to want your used Jazz when they can still get a new one for essentially $12.50 + tax. There are five sets of labels for that mold on Toyhax. Just get one of them to turn it into either G2 Jazz, "SG" Jazz or use one of the two Toxitron G2 Jazz label sets to make a new character.

As for Wheeljack, didn't he get TWO package refreshes and a Netflix release? Yeah, nobody needs your Wheeljack. I can't even think of anything else to do with him. Paint him black and call him Rube?

A "G1" deluxe Autobot five pack? It would almost be a Studio Series 86 five pack if not for the inclusion of Trailbreaker. Bumblebee would've been a good replacement to make that happen.

Anyway though, why the other four Autobots in the set? Hound is almost a given that it will be the "G1" version of the Siege mold as seen back in 2022 and is currently used for Detritus. The other four are obviously other season one bots so there's that. Some of them are also difficult to get now apparently like Sunstreaker and maybe Trailbreaker. But that's not really what I'm trying to get at.

Are these going to be made without translucent plastic? They can't get rid of Jazz as it is so why make another one already unless it doesn't have the translucent plastic? Similar in a way to what they did with Kup and Cliffjumper. Doing this would also greatly help Sunstreaker since he had three shades of yellow and taking out the yellow paint on the translucent plastic would mean he'd only have two shades of yellow now. Wheeljack was mostly fine except for the robot mode "wings" Trailbreaker was fine as well. He and Hoist are the next ones to be bumped up to a deluxe + style voyager. Or at least they should be.

It's just we know Houd will have translucent plastic. So will all of these have it or will some of them have it or is this something else entirely? They're at the very least not going to be straight reissues as it's not listed as a package refresh (PR). Personally, I'd love to see a new Sunstreaker mold already. Like Tracks, the Earthrise mold was lackluster at best. Same with Wheeljack in a way. I just doubt they'll be making new molds for them already let alone releasing them this way. Maybe retools of existing figure? I think that Chase mold would not only make the perfect base for Lockdown (it literally has the same parts layout and transformation for about 90% of it...or rather the RotF figure anyway) but it would also make for a good Sunstreaker and Wheeljack base too. While the transformations are different, the overall result of where the parts go is mostly the same for Chase as it is for Wheeljack and Sunstreaker. The arms are quite a bit different but so were the Earthrise molds.

I'll most likely pick this up regardless though. Unless it's straight reissues that is. While I've had no issues with Jazz, I would rather have one without the translucent plastic. Hound is what it is as I like the Siege mold better as I do with Mirage. It's just more "fun" to me and works better overall. However the Siege mold isn't THAT much better like it was with Mirage. The Kingdom Mirage mold just sucks...like Earthrise Megatron. Siege really had great figures compared to their lame retools. Trailbreaker is what it is. At least there's new head options for him now from Renderform. I'd only want another Wheeljack if it had better accessories. I don't want a fourth of that Sunstreaker mold though but I guess one without translucent plastic and better color matching isn't too bad.

Where there's an Autobot set, there's bound to be a Decepticon set. So what would it be? Five Reflectors lol. I mean, deluxe sized Decepticons are few and far between when it comes to season 1, season 2, the movie or season 3. There's really only Reflector and the Insecticons. So the three Insecticons/Reflectors and like four core class cassettes? Ravage, Ratbat, Laserbeak and Buzzsaw. If we go season 4 then the Battlechargers could be the other two spots. Those need reissues badly.
