Daily Prime - Unused Optimus Prime Concept Designs from Transformers Prime

With the sad passing of Roberto Orci, it is hard not to think about what a great show Transformers Prime was. Not known until recently, was the show began under the name "Robots In Disguise" with a completely different look and format than the production that debuted on the The Hub November 26th, 2010.

What was supposed to be a continuation of the High Moon Games continuity, still managed to find a footing with a solid story line, iconic characters, and complex themes in the final TV show that was produced.

The design of Optimus Prime can be seen in a few variations in the original Transformers: Prime Original Pitch Slides. Complied from elements of the Bayverse design, and a bit of Classics styling, the Autobot leaders' new look has been streamlined with a more G1 feel that considers both the long nose and COE design alt modes. Which are said to be artworks in development and not final. The most impressive idea from the presentation is the integration of Optimus Prime with different Command Trailers.

This fantastic idea that we have never seen before, shows Optimus Prime working in five different configurations including the following:

• Power-UP Base
• Submarine
• Tank
• Earth Driller
• Jetwing

As stated in the slide, the trailers were for mobility of the Autobots team, as we can see them using Jetwing parts to fly together. Presumably, the trailers also worked as a sort of Power-Up Mech suit as well, shown below.

The trailer idea was obviously scrapped. For reasons unknown, we hardly got to see Optimus Prime with his trailer in the series. Nor was it officially produced in toy form - just a paper version from Takara TOMY as part of a Toys R Us Japan Exclusive. Only a third party maker was able to roll one out with the APC Toys Assault Boxcar release.
