James Charles Shooter (September 27, 1951 – June 30, 2025) has passed away after a long battle with cancer. Like anything, Transformers began as an idea that was originally conceived by Jim for what was to become the Marvel Transformers comics series that was first published in September 1984.
The original THE TRANSFORMERS Treatment (read below) written in 1981, when Jim was Marvel Editor-In-Chief, sets up the initial story with the opening line "Civil war rages on the planet Cybertron.", and the rest is history, as it was this story passed on to Denny O Neil and Bob Budiansky who continued to develop the Generation 1 characters and stories for the comic and TV series that we know today.
This was just one of the many incredible properties Jim worked with including The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers, Iron Man, Ghost Rider, and many more that will be remembered for years to come. Read more about Jim's career on WIKIPEDIA
