Following the whale of an official reveal for the Activate Your Alt Mode Shockwave, we have a behind the scenes update from Hasbro Transformers designer Evan Brooks on the what and why behind the design.

They did consider and draft other alternate modes designs such as a Shark, Manta Ray, and Squid (above). Not surprising, the alternate mode chosen was inspired by the Image Comics Transformers series appearance of Shockwave with a Humpback whale (below).

For better or worse, it is not the fierce predator or laser gun offering many had hoped for. However, we do get an evil purple whale that is definitely something new and different.
