Following on from @transformers_nate84 comments on G1 Universe entering Studio Series, Hasbro designer Evan Brooks @naveskoorb chimed in with some more info and how this may relate to the on-going Generations Legacy series.

The introduction of Studio Series G1 has been described as being more screen-accurate, as we have pretty much seen demonstrated already with the 1986 sub-line. Generations will continue as a "sandbox" to introduce new characters and ideas. Read the full quote below for all the details from Hasbro.
Series is evolving to encompass all forms of the TF entertainment, such as the G1 cartoon with a goal of trying to make figures that match their on screen representations. Legacy is the sandbox where new characters and form factors are being explored as seen with the 13 Primes.
